UP govt’s secularism exposed, moves to SC against Jamia Milia Islamia

New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party supposed to be a secular and just party towards the Muslim community as it heavily banks on support of the community but when actions needed to prove its claim, it looks no different from ‘communal’ BJP and other so called secular parties. The latest case in point is the acquisition of 22 acre of UP land by the historic Jamia Milia Islamia has irked the Samajwadi Party-led UP government as it contesting the Delhi government’s decision to hand over the land to the Jamia for educational purpose.
Since the Chief Akhilesh Yadav led government has come to power in March 2012 solely because of Muslim support, it did not fulfill a single promise made to the community in its election manifesto. The Party made a tall promise of 18 percent reservation in government jobs and education but it kept the promise under carpet. The latest incident completely exposed the SP and its so-called messiah of Muslim Azam Khan who only raises lofty and noisy slogans to befool the community. The supposed ‘just’ government of the UP has decided to approach the Supreme Court against the Delhi Government decision to acquire 22 Acre of UP land (situated at Okhla in South Delhi) to hand it over to Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) New Delhi for its expansion plan.
The Akhilesh Govt’s decision to approach Supreme Court for cancellation the Delhi government’s decision betrayed its anti-minority stand. As Jamia Millia Islamia is a recognized minority institution, where non-Muslim students are also studying in large numbers. It has no land for future expansion. In view of this,the Delhi Government has decided to give land to the Jamia which has a historic importance because of its role in freedom movement. Before going to the Apex Court, the UP government have ponder over that a large number of Muslim students come from UP to the Jamia.
Instead allocating the unused land situated at Okhla , which is the property of UP government for the development of the locality that is dominated by minority population and lacks all kinds of basic civil amenities like schools, hospitals, parks the Akhilesh govt’s move is planning to grab the land which was all ready allocated for the expansion of Jamia Millia Islamia.
It should be noted that last year when local Muslim leaders protested against the alleged selling of the same land to Jaypee Group the UP government installed a PAC camp on the same land.
Ironically there are lots of Muslim MLAs and ministers in UP government including the heavyweight Azam Khan, who is happened to be the Urban Development Minister under whose ministry this land comes but he is on the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as keeping mum is best policy of avoiding any criticism.
