Vibrant Gujarat summit: MoUs for Rs 50,000-cr renewable power projects likely

Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019Gandhinagar : The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 (VGGS) expects to see commitment of investments worth a whopping Rs 50,000 crore in the renewable energy sector in the state, according to officials.

The state-owned Gujarat Power Corp Ltd (GPCL) will be laying the foundation stone for the biggest 5000mw solar power park worth Rs 25,000 crore within the Dholera Special Investment Region.

The three-day biennial summit begins on January 18.

The state government will also be signing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various companies to set up renewable energy projects in Gujarat.

The Energy and Petrochemicals Department will be signing an agreement with Powerica Ltd to set up a Rs 1,200-crore wind-based project with the capacity of producing 200 mw at Devbhumi Dwarka in Saurashtra.

Another such 200mw wind power project will be set up at Devbhumi Dwarka by the Siemens Gamesha Renewable Power Pvt Ltd.

In the vast desert district of Kutch, a 500mw wind power project will be set up by Sarjan Realities Ltd at a cost of Rs 3,250 crore for which MoU will be signed by the government.

The state-owned Gujarat State Electricity Corp Ltd (GSECL) will also be commencing commercial production of its Rs 323-crore 75mw solar photovoltaic power plant at Dewan in Anand district.

Meanwhile, commercial production at the Powerica Ltd’s Rs 720-crore 100mw wind power project at Jamnagar with the Powerica Ltd, an MoU for which had been signed earlier, is scheduled to be launched in February.

Pakistan, China, Afghanistan sign MoU on anti-terrorism cooperationKabul : Pakistan, China and Afghanistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) vis-a-vis anti-terrorism cooperation during a second trilateral ministerial dialogue in Kabul on Saturday.

The MoU was signed by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Chinese as well as Afghan counterparts Wang Yi and Salahuddin Rabbani, respectively. The signing of the document was witnessed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Speaking at the trilateral dialogue, Rabbani said that collective efforts were required to address the common challenge of terrorism. “We desire to strengthen our relations with Pakistan,” he said and also appreciated the Chinese One Belt One Road initiative.

Qureshi, during a joint press conference, called for a joint strategy to eradicate terrorism from the region. He said he was visiting Kabul to bridge the trust deficit between the two countries, the Express Tribune reported.

“We all want peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the minister said, adding that Pakistan will continue to play facilitative role in Afghan reconciliation process.

“We will do everything to support the growing momentum towards reconciliation provided others play their due role and share responsibility and create an enabling environment towards that end.”

Calling Afghanistan and Pakistan as “friends of China”, Wang said that Beijing will extend “every possible cooperation to build trust and confidence between the two countries”.

China will also assist in establishing connectivity projects including a rail line between Peshawar, Kabul and Kandahar, he said, adding that Beijing “desires to make Afghanistan a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor”.

“We support an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” Wang said.

This was the second meeting of the three foreign ministers after their kick-off meeting in Beijing last year.

Kerala inks MoU with Airbus group to boost start-ups

Airbus BizLabThiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s start-up ecosystem got a major fillip as the state government on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus BizLab, a global aerospace accelerator which is part of the Airbus group.

The MoU was inked between Siddharth Balachandran, Airbus Bizlab India and Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Under the MoU, an Innovation Centre will be set up here which will be the nodal body for planning and executing all the activities to help start-ups.

“We are confident that this partnership with Airbus Bizlab will help the industrial ecosystem of Kerala. It will up-skill the local youth and enhance employability,” said Vijayan.

Airbus BizLab will also provide support and mentoring for start-ups in Kerala and conduct regular workshops and discussions with experts from the aerospace and defence sectors.

Further, the France-headquartered company, which has set up facilities in Bengaluru, Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany) and Madrid (Spain) to create a global network of business accelerators, is to run training programmes to acquaint participants with aerospace technologies.

“The initiative aims to foster local talent in the aerospace domain and help promising start-ups to contribute towards shaping the future of flying not only in India but the world,” said Anand E. Stanley, president and managing director, Airbus India and South Asia.

Assam, Singapore sign MoU for skilling youths

Assam, Singapore sign MoU for skilling youths in Guwahati.Guwahati : The Assam government on Wednesday signed MoUs with its Singapore counterpart for skilling over 78,000 rural youths in the state by 2019 and greening Guwahati.

The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for setting up the North East Skills Centre (NESC) and Greening Guwahati City was inked in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at the Administrative Staff College here.

The MoU and ToR for NESC was signed between Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department and ITE Education Service of Singapore. The NESC will train up to 400 students each year.

The MoU for Guwahati city’s greening was inked between the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and Singapore Corporation Enterprise.

“The Assam government aims to create a workforce empowered with upgraded skills, knowledge and internationally recognised qualifications to gain access to employment and ensure India’s competitiveness in the dynamic global market with support from government of Singapore,” Sonowal said at the event.

The skill development training will be imparted to 78,500 poor rural youths during 2016-19 under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana.

Sonowal said an innovative project — Guwahati Open Space and Park Integrator Network — for the beautification of Guwahati and improvement of quality of life of its inhabitants had been initated.

The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s natural resources and tourism potential and sought the Singapore government’s cooperation for showcasing it to a global audience.

The Singapore Minister said the joint endeavour will mark the beginning of a lasting friendship, beneficial for both Assam and Singapore.

Syria, Iran sign MoU on electricity cooperationTehran, Iran : A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on cooperation in electricity sector was signed between Syria and Iran on Tuesday.

The memo provides for establishing a new power generation station in Lattakia, with a total capacity of 450 MW, establishing five gas units with a capacity of 125 MW in Banias, in addition to, evaluating the damage caused to the Aleppo Thermal Station, and rehabilitating the first and fifth gas units in Aleppo.

It also stipulated for rehabilitating and reactivating the Electrical Supervisory Control Centre and Data Acquisition (ESCADA) in Damascus, rehabilitating the 90-MW al-Taim generating plant, in Deir Ezzor and improving the performance of Jandar Generating Plant in Homs.

The memo was signed by Electricity Minister, Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli and Director General of the General Establishment for Electricity Generation, Hammoud Ramadan, on the Syrian side, and Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Sattar Mahmoudi and MAPNA Group Chairman and CEO, Aliabadi, on the Iranian side.

In the same context, Eng. Ramadan and Aliabadi singed two contracts on importing five gas units to Aleppo City, with a capacity of 125 MW and rehabilitating and improving the capacity of the 34 MW Gas Unit in Banias power station, to become 38 MW.

Later, Kharboutli discussed with the Adviser to the First Vice President of Iran, head of the Committee for Development of Iranian-Syrian Economic Relations, Saeed Ohadi, means to overcome obstacles facing the investment of Iranian companies in Syria, during the reconstruction phase.
