AAI inks MoU for skill development initiatives

aaiNew Delhi, (IANS) The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Skill Development Fund (NSDF) for scaling up skill development initiatives in the country.

According to the tripartite agreement, the AAI has committed Rs.5.25 crore contribution from its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds to the NSDF along with land and premises for setting up skill development centres in the country.

Commenting on the ‘strategic partnership’, Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju said the skilled workforce was required to improve airport infrastructure across the country.

“As we gear up for a new civil aviation policy, for more new airports, we will have to source skilled workforce. Any vibrant programme needs a skilled workforce. This strategic partnership will certainly help us ready that workforce right now,” he said.

Under the MoU, the AAI will align its ongoing skill development programmes with the Skill India mission so that all courses are taught under the ‘National Skill Qualification Framework’, which is recognised by the industry.

The programme will be managed by the NSDC and its training partners who have till now cumulatively skilled more than 80.33 lakh youth.

Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said this partnership will cater to the workforce requirement of the civil aviation industry.

“By 2035, the civil aviation sector will employ an estimated eight to 10 lakh people directly and another three lakh indirectly. To cater to this requirement, we introduced a new Sector Skill Council exclusively for preparing a job-ready workforce for the aerospace and aviation sector last year,” Rudy said.

USTM MOUGawahati: A MoU has been signed between Gauhati University (GU) and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) today. The MoU was signed by Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University on behalf of Gauhati University and Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, on behalf of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya in the Office of the Registrar, Gauhati University on April, 7th 2016 at 10:15am. The MoU between Gauhati University, the oldest institution of the region of national importance and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), an emerging technology university in North East provides a road map in relation to future cooperation between the two Universities. The collaboration will pave ways for USTM’s Vision-2020 in pertaining to be a university of national repute. All the Deans of various schools, senior professors and higher officials of USTM were present during the event.

Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University in his remarks commented that every organization has its strength, USTM too is young and full of enthusiasm, with the exchange of ideas with GU, USTM can surely excel in the path of academic growth. Dr Hazarika also assured that irrespective of the fact that USTM is a young university, GU like a elder brother will provide all sort of support and guidance to USTM so that it can achieve academic heights in the future days.

Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM in his statement said, “It is a landmark achievement & opportunity for USTM community to excel under the patronage of Gauhati University who have already made a long journey in the field of academics”. He expressed his gratefulness to the authorities of GU for accepting the proposal of MoU and made the dream a reality.

The MOU provides that Gauhati University will guide USTM in academic promotion by mentoring and training the faculties, special classes by GU Faculties, guidance in University governance, syllabus & examination up-gradation, and jointly organising seminars, workshops, symposia on specific themes pertaining to the region in particular and national and international issues in general. In the sphere of research, GU will guide USTM in managing the research programmes by jointly guiding the scholars of USTM for quality research in their respective field. GU will also guide the faculties in preparing DPR for projects and collaborative activities by taking lead.

The cooperation will open the doors for the faculties of USTM to go for higher education and research at Gauhati University. Now, the students of USTM can attend classes for specific period at GU and do their internship, summer training under the guidance of GU faculty/departments. Students and research scholars can access the library and lab facilities at GU time to time. Research scholars of GU can visit USTM to guide students how to get admission at GU and guide them for higher education in their field of study. R&D activities will be enhanced by the able guidance from the eminent senior professors of GU.

The MoU will create a path for promotion of sports & culture by creating a competitive environment among the students through different activities to guide them further.

UP to sign MoU with Tata Trusts on Monday

Ratan TataLucknow:(IANS) The Uttar Pradesh government will be signing an MoU with the Tata Trusts on Monday to set rolling a long-term partnership in community development work, an official said.

The multi-dimensional MoU would be signed by representatives of the two sides in the presence of Tata’s chairman emeritus Ratan Tata and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, a state government spokesman told IANS, adding the trusts would be providing support in the state government’s  endeavours in poverty alleviation, employment generation, increasing income and infrastructure development.

To ensure proper execution of work and effective monitoring, a joint state-level steering committee comprising representatives of the state government and the Tata Trusts would be set up.

The spokesman said that the sectors in which the state government and the Tata Trusts would be working include mother-infant health, preparing and implementation of a nutrition programme for better health of mother-child, and special efforts in ensuring that anaemia is eliminated in women.

A mechanism would be developed so that cancer can be detected at an early stage and a cancer registry would also be prepared.

Both sides would work together to ensure quality education and job-oriented training in various sectors.

Under the MoU, developing off-grid solar energy as well as solar energy-based irrigation systems, establishing solar water lifting pumps, hi-tech plant nurseries, introduction of improved varieties and techniques of horticulture, assimilation of various varieties, agro-forestry, bio-farming and combined efforts to increase agriculture harvest,  mechanisation, post-harvest management are some other initiatives.

The MoU would also encompass safe storage, agri-marketing, encouraging micro-irrigation, developing high-quality seeds, development of value chain for milk, menthol, garlic, onion, maize, pulses, banana and potatoes.

TCAHyderabad:(IANS) The Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA) and Taipei Computer Association (TCA) on Thursday signed an MoU to explore possibilities in developing and enhancing cooperation in information and communication technology projects.

They will explore opportunities of cooperation in development of smart cities, providing skill enablement for increased job opportunities in the ICT segment, such as hi-tech skill training as well as Mandarin language and other such cultural training.

Both associations will facilitate regular, frequent and meaningful exchange of information on relevant aspects of their respective activities and other matters of common interest, according to a statement by HYSEA.

They will mutually facilitate visits and delegations to each other’s country to participate in events and to promote trade and business-to-business activities.

The TCA delegation also expressed keen interest in the working to explore markets for their products, after sales services and skill development activities in India in general and Hyderabad in particular. The other area where they were keen was in technology transfer contracts or open source hardware where Taiwanese companies could supply base technology to local companies, which could then build on them to customise for local requirements.

TCA was represented by Office of Taiwan-India Cooperation director Ihuan Lee and senior officer Joy Chang, senior officer, while for HYSEA, president Ramesh Loganathan, and executive committee members Vijay Rangineni, Murali Bollu and others were present.

“TCA is the leading industrial organization in Taiwan and with its vast reach among the companies engaged in software, hardware, semiconductors and components, manufacture, sales, network communication services etc. ,and we see immense potential for cooperation among our associations,” said Loganathan.
