Kirana King aims to create 7000 stores in 14 cities – Jaipur based Startup

Jaipur:25th SeptemberWith a vision of insulating traditional off-line Kirana shops in the country from the online grocery and large format modern retail platforms, a Jaipur based grocery retail store aggregator Kirana King is looking is all set to replicate its model across 14 key cities of the country in the coming five years. The company has already aggregated over 85 stores in the pink-city and it now looks expand into other cities to reach more than 7,000 stores in 14 cities in the next five years.

Mr. Anup Kumar Khandelwal, Founder & CEO of Kirana King  said, “Online platforms and large format modern retail are giving the tough time to the small Kirana stores, thereby eroding their competitiveness. Hyperlocal off-line Kirana Shops will remain as relevant in the Indian syntax if they stand united and collectively mobilize the power of their vast network. This is possible by adopting modern retail management tactics, technology, and infrastructure. Kirana King helps in providing all such transformational support and creates the dynamic alternate commerce platform that gives an edge in the challenging market.

Kirana King plays a vital role in the transformation of offline traditional Kirana stores while keeping the store owner’s identity and revenue interest intact. Kirana King invests in the infrastructure, technology and supply chain management. Mr. Khandelwal says, “We also focus on giving a sense of pride to the Kirana owners and boosting profitability so that their gen-next remain interested and stay-put in the family business.”

According to a report, India has more than 12 million Kirana stores that still follow the traditional business practices. By introducing standardization, digitization, centralization, and socialization to traditional Kirana retail system, Kirana King aims to be the largest offline marketplace, having the bargaining power of economies of scale and reach.

Kirana King has its Distribution Centers and is working on linking the stores with tech-supported supply chain management system. Collective promotional and marketing initiatives would be part of the strategy to boost footfalls while offering a delightful experience to the consumers.

Established in 2014, with a deep-rooted and farsighted idea of insulating the Indian traditional grocery market from the rapid e-commerce onslaught, Kirana King has set India’s first revolutionary ‘Asset Light Grocery Retail Business Model’. This model enables Indian Kirana Store owners to become a part of the revolutionary grocery retail expansion while retaining the ownership of their stores. On the other side, the model also enables consumers to avail ‘organised shopping experience’ at their neighboring known Kirana stores. Additionally, Kirana King will bring a ‘Click & Collect’ – Dynamic Alternate Commerce model where customers will be able to pick-up their orders from their nearby grocery stores after ordering, from a wide range of grocery categories, it online. Plans are also underway to launch Direct to Retail (DTR) initiatives in select cities.
