Its raining investments in Gujarat in the run up to the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Investor Summit 2015-16. The Gujarat government, on , signed a State Support Agreement (SSA) with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) for a two-wheeler manufacturing plant in Ahmedabad district.

According to chief minister Anandiben Patel, the plant will come up at Viththlapur village in Mandal region of Ahmedabad district, near the upcoming Maruti Suziki facility. The company is expected to invest R1,000 crore for this plant and will generate employment for 2,000 people.

The company also signed a pact with the state government for setting up of a skill development centre. “Taking forward the Make In India movement, the Gujarat government signed a pact with Japanese auto giant Honda’s Indian subsidiary, HMSI. Honda will set up skill development centre in Gujarat which will enhance skills and create employment opportunities in engineering sector for youth,” tweeted Patel after the signing of the pact.

This will be HMSI’s fourth manufacturing facility in India after Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka. At the Auto Expo 2014, Takanobu Ito, president and CEO, HMSI, had announced setting up of the facility in Gujarat, which will have a manufacturing capacity of 1.2 million units per annum. The facility will have two assembly lines for scooters.
