Yog Samaroh-2022 ends at USTM with celebration of International Yoga Day

9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, June 21, 2022: The month-long Yog Samaroh-2022 has come to an end here today with the celebration of the International Day of Yoga at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) where several hundred of students, teachers and staff performed Yoga under the guidance of expert Yoga Mentors. The programme was jointly organised by Yoga Centre and Department of Physiotherapy USTM and it was sponsored by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The programme began with a lecture on the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day–“Yoga for Humanity” by Nazia Akhtar, Yoga Teacher, Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva Viswavidyalaya, Guwahati. After this, the two Yoga instructors, Anupam Paul and Pooja Arun Maske demonstrated Common Yoga Protocol before the participants who followed the same.

After the performance of the common yoga protocol, Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM said, “Yoga is a way of life that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and soul. Keeping with this spirit, we started a month-long Yog Samaroh-2022 at the campus that has concluded today”.

Speaking in this context, Priyanka Baishya, Yoga Mentor at USTM said, “Apart from the health benefits, we need to promote yoga as a profession since the demand of yoga teachers and mentors is increasing both in the country and abroad.” She also said that USTM is going to start B.Sc. Yoga and various short-term Diploma and Certificate courses under its Yoga programme.
