Khartoum : The Ministers of Water Resources and Irrigation of Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt affirmed the spirit of cooperation among the three countries during their field tour to the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on Wednesday at the invitation of the Ethiopian side.
The three ministers, who were accompanied by members of the Tripartite National Technical Committee during the visit, said in statements to Sudan TV that the cooperation on the dam is a model among the Nile riparian states that others should emulate. They noted the success of the three countries in reaching solutions and consensus as a result of their cooperation over a couple of past years, in such a way that met their requirements through the joint technical committees as well as water diplomacy and presidential diplomacy.
The ministers and experts listened to a detailed explanation from the dam’s resident engineer about all the stages of the project, including the design, safety testing and implementation up to the current stage of the dam construction.
The ministers also got reassured of the process of removing the vegetation cover in the lake to meet the recommendation of the National Technical Committee and International Technical Experts to ensure the quality of water coming out of the dam. The trio also inspected all the water drainage facilities at the various levels and got reassured that the water that passes through the dam gates meets the needs of Sudan and Egypt in all circumstances.
