New Delhi: The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari presented the ‘Malti Devi Gyan Peeth Puraskar-2014’ to fifteen outstanding teachers from girls’ higher secondary schools in Punjab at a function here today. The function was organized by the Mohinder Singh Syngle Education and Research Society, in cooperation with the Government of Punjab. Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President said that nothing is more important than the education and teachers play a very important role in imparting education to students.
He applauded the joint effort of Punjab government along with Mohinder Singh Syngle Education and Research Society for such a useful contribution to the society. However he expressed his concern that now-a-days the position of teachers in society is degraded and it needs to be corrected. He said that in1947, only 12% population was educated in our country and now in 2014 it is 75% but still it is very low in comparison to world average of 80-85%.
The Vice President said that society at large will come have to come forward in achieving the goal of education for all. He congratulated the exceptional teachers and the organizers and also wished them success in future.
