Jammu: The department will also organize Kargil festival to give the district wide publicity for its promotion, a spokesperson of the department said.

In order to promote Kargil for tourism activities, the Department of Tourism, Kashmir is organizing a familiarisation (FAM) tour for national media persons, who will be visiting tourist spots in Kashmir and Kargil.

This was announced by the Director Tourism, Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah on his three day tour to Drass, Kargil and Leh. During his visit to Kargil, Shah interacted with the travel agents and hoteliers at Kargil Tourist Information Center.

The Director said the tourism department would invite journalists from across the country, who will write about Kashmir and Kargil so that people across country know tourist attractions in the region.

Calling for extending the stays of the tourists in Kargil, the Director Tourism said the place only acts as a transit point for the travelers which don’t benefit locals much.

“We want tourist to stay in Kargil and spend few nights here. For this, we would try to promote lesser known destinations in the region,” he said.

The Director Tourism said the department would promote the district for the adventure tourism activities.

In this regard, he said major sporting events would be held in the district in which participants from country and other countries would participate.
