Microsoft to upgrade its Redmond headquarters

Microsoft to upgrade its Redmond headquarters

MicrosoftSan Francisco : As part of a plan to overhaul its 500-acre campus in Redmond, Washington State, Microsoft will start a multi-year project in 2018 to create 18 new buildings, alongside new public spaces, transportation investments and sports fields.

According to a report on The Verge, the updated campus will house 47,000 Microsoft employees that currently work at the company’s headquarters in Redmond and allow for 8,000 more people.

The new plans include building a two-acre open plaza that can fit 2,000 people.

The company, which currently has 125 buildings at its campus, will demolish 12 old buildings to bigger 18 replacements. After the completion of the project, the building number will rise to 131 buildings.

The work is expected to take between five and seven years to complete.

In October, Microsoft built treehouse workspaces with embedded tech at its Redmond campus that will serve as meeting spaces and a more casual work environment.

The treehouse is one of the three new branch-based meeting spaces and is part of a larger new system of technology-enabled outdoor districts connected to buildings around campus empowering employees to work in new ways.

Earlier this year, Apple opened its new Apple Park campus. Its Cloud rival Amazon is also looking space for its second headquarters and had fielded bizarre bets from cities desperate for the retail giant to build a campus outside of Seattle.

Microsoft India cybersecurity centre empowers 126 organisations

MicrosoftNew Delhi : Microsoft India on Tuesday said its “Cybersecurity Engagement Centre” in New Delhi has reached out to 126 organisations in a year, empowering them with information and techniques to secure critical information infrastructure and help reduce malware and digital risk in the country.

The centre, set up in New Delhi a year ago, is part of a global network of eight such centres.

It brings together Microsoft capabilities to foster deeper cybersecurity collaborations with public and private sector organisations and build a trusted and secure computing environment, a critical enabler for India’s digital transformation.

“Cybersecurity is vital for Digital India. A data driven economy can flourish only when governments, businesses and individuals leverage the power of cloud computing with the confidence that their data is secure,” said Anant Maheshwari, President-Microsoft India.

With the aim to make cyberspace safer, Microsoft also rolled out a nationwide campaign to increase awareness on cybersecurity and cyber hygiene, ahead of the Global Conference of Cyber Space (GCCS2017) here this week.

The tech giant said it invests more than a billion dollars a year in security research, innovation and development.

Under the Microsoft Intelligent Security programme, the tech giant has partnered several organisations across sectors to set up a CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) Advisory Board.

The objective of the board is to foster a deep and continuous engagement with the CISO community and share information and knowledge about the latest developments in cybersecurity as well as best techniques and practices.

Through its three-pronged approach of a comprehensive platform, unique intelligence and partnerships, Microsoft is also driving educational sessions and coaching sessions with enterprises across the country.

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force in May 2018, significantly raises the bar for privacy.

To help simplify the path to compliance, Microsoft is organising a series of worldwide webinars as well as physical workshops in select Indian cities under the aegis of its GDPR Academy for its customers.

Microsoft is also working with partner schools to integrate lessons on cyber-hygiene and cyber safety into their curriculum, starting with the 25 schools under the Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) initiative, which is part of Niti Aayog’s flagship programme Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

New Delhi : Faster adoption of Microsoft Office 365 and made for India ‘Kaizala’ app are helping several Indian enterprises — from banking to healthcare — unlock their true potential and transform digitally, India-born Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said here on Tuesday.

Addressing the India Today Conclave in the capital, Nadella said that in the world full of immense possibilities with disrupting technologies changing the business models, Microsoft has helped the State Bank of India (SBI) take a giant leap to Cloud and modernise its workplace.

“We are thrilled to partner with SBI on their digital transformation as they harness the Intelligent Cloud and build new digital capability to empower their employees; engage customers in new ways and transform their products and services, while maintaining security, trust and compliance with industry regulations,” Nadella said.

The SBI has chosen Office 365, the cloud-powered productivity solution, from Microsoft to improve communication and collaboration among its workforce.

This is one of the largest deployments of Office 365 in India, spanning SBI’s countrywide network of 23,423 branches, enabling 263,000 employees and servicing more than 500 million customer accounts.

“In the mobile-first and mobile-only country like India, the ‘Kaizala’ app is transforming Indian firms, from retail to healthcare, how they connect with customers and partners efficiently,” the Microsoft executive noted.

Microsoft ‘Kaizala’ has seen significant adoption among firms such as YES Bank, Apollo Telemedicine, United Phosphorous Limited and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, who are currently piloting the solution for their internal teams.

The Andhra Pradesh government is also using ‘Kaizala’ for real time governance.

Using ‘Kaizala’, firms can connect with their employees and the extended value chain.

The product offers a simple and familiar chat interface and goes beyond to make everyone more productive using Surveys, Polls, Jobs, Meetings and other actions, right in your chats.

“In this era of Intelligent Edge and Intelligent Cloud – and not to forget Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will drive this era — we need to make a great sense of humongous data that is around us to build right digital capabilities,” Nadella told the audience.
