KCR’s statement will have far-reaching impact on national politics: Owaisi

KCR’s statement will have far-reaching impact on national politics: Owaisi

Asaduddin OwaisiHyderabad : MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has welcomed the statement of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao that a third front as an alternative to the BJP and the Congress will emerge in the country and said this will have a far-reaching impact.

The Hyderabad MP told reporters on Sunday that the statement by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief would have a far reaching impact on national politics.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president hoped that KCR will play a pivotal role in bringing together non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and non-Congress parties.

Owaisi predicted that the regional parties will have a key role in the formation of the next government at the Centre.

He said the country was looking towards regional parties and also towards the parties which could offer an alternative to the BJP and the Congress.

The MIM leader said the statement by the TRS chief was encouraging as there is a big vacuum in the country.

“He rightly said people are vexed with the BJP governance and Congress is not becoming a viable alternative nor can it become one,” said the MP.

Owaisi was all praise for KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, and said the country needs leaders like him and thinking like his.

He said KCR struggled and proved himself as a political leader and an efficient Chief Minister.

Owaisi said KCR not only proved himself by achieving Telangana state but also proved those wrong who had predicted that Telangana will be a failed state.

“KCR has the capacity, capability and and acceptance. He has given the best governance in Telangana during the last four years and made Telangana a progressive and number one state in the country,” said Owaisi.

The MP believes KCR also has political sagacity and foresight.

“Those who talk of qualitative change in politics and are looking for a change will have to think and come together,” he said.

Owaisi declined to speculate on which parties will be part of the proposed front. “Let us not speculate. He has given his idea and I am sure it will appeal to all,” he said.

“I am insignificant,” Owaisi remarked on whether he will be part of the proposed alliance.

Why silence on sacrifice of Muslim soldiers in J&K attack: Owaisi

Asaduddin OwaisiNew Delhi : AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday referred to the religion of soldiers killed in Sunjuwan Army camp terror attack and questioned the “silence” of those raising questions about the patriotism of Indian Muslims.

“Five of the seven killed in the attack (on Saturday) were Kashmiri Muslims. Now, everybody is silent on their sacrifice,” Owaisi said, asking “why such silence on this issue?”

“Everyday, at 9 p.m. on television (debates), the nationalism of (Indian) Muslims is questioned. Questions are also raised on the Kashmiris.”

The Hyderabad MP said the people “who question the integrity of Muslims and those who call Muslims Pakistanis” will have to take a lesson from this.

“We (Muslims) are giving our lives… terrorists are killing us too as they are not discriminating on the basis of religion. They treat everyone as Indian. But there are many people in the country who still question our integrity,” Owaisi said.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh termed Owaisi’s remarks as “unfortunate”.

“These are very unfortunate remarks from a person elected to Parliament and who has taken oath under the Indian Constitution. He always looks at areas where he can divide society on communal lines,” Singh said.

“So far as our martyrs are concerned, they have sacrificed their lives for the country. We don’t see these martyrs as Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs or Christians. They are martyrs of the nation,” he added.

CPI leader D. Raja however backed Owaisi. “I think it is an answer to the people who are questioning the patriotism or nationalism of the Muslim community.”

Seven persons, including six soldiers, were killed in the terror attack on the Army camp. Three militants involved in the attack were also killed in offensive by the security forces.

Muslim Board rules out compromise on Babri Masjid

Muslim Board rules out compromise on Babri Masjid

Muslim Personal Law Board's crucial meet begins in HyderabadHyderabad : The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the apex body of Indian Muslims, on Friday ruled out any compromise on Babri Masjid, rejecting a proposal by one of its members Maulana Salman Nadvi reportedly supporting construction of Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

The Board announced after its executive meeting here on Friday night that there is no change in its stand that it is a mosque and when a mosque is constructed at a place, it remains a mosque till “qayamat” (the final judgement).

The land dedicated for mosque can’t be sold, gifted or in any way alienated, it said in a statement.

The Board said it never rejected the offers of conciliation by Hindu religious leaders and urged them to come forward with justifiable and honourable settlement. “However, they always had one answer that Muslims should unilaterally give up the mosque but Muslims can’t do this because giving a mosque for worship of anyone other than Allah is ‘haram’ and there is no scope for this in Shariat. If Muslims do this they will be accountable to Allah,” said the statement released in Urdu.

“The matter is in court. Board has taken a stand that it will accept the court verdict. The matter being heard in the court is not of belief but a matter of the right of ownership and hence there is hope that the verdict will be in line with the stand taken by Muslims. If this happens, this will neither be victory of anybody nor defeat of anybody. This will be the victory of justice,” said the statement read out by Board Secretary Umrain Mahfooz Rahmani.

Board’s executive member and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi read out the statement in English.

“All the attempts to negotiate the settlements in past have been infructuous and there is no proposal offering settlement without sacrificing the basic tent has ever been put before the board,” it said.

The Board reiterated its resolutions passed in 1990 and 1993. The announcement came after over four-hour long meeting of the executive on the first day of the three-day plenary.

Salman Nadvi also attended the meeting presided over by the Board president Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi.

After a meeting with spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Salman Nadvi reportedly favoured construction of Ram Mandir at the disputed site in Ayodhya. He also reported to have said that the mosque canAbe built on an alternative land near the disputed site.

Salman Nadvi gave a clarification in the Board’s executive meeting about his proposal. Sources said he was isolated over the issue in the meeting attended by majority of 50 executive members.

Owaisi told the media that the meeting unanimously reiterated its stand. He, however, declined to answer any queries.

BJP practising ‘pakoda politics’, says Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad : Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that the BJP is practising “pakoda politics” in the country.

“What is happening is all ‘pakoda politics’,” he said while reacting to the violent protests in some states against Bollywood movie “Padmaavat”.

While the Hyderabad MP did not elaborate on “pakoda politics”, his remarks were an allusion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement that a man making Rs 200 daily by selling “pakodas” can’t be called unemployed.

“The unemployed are burning buses, attacking bus of school children, setting afire vehicles and shopping malls,” he said and alleged that those indulging in violence had the tacit support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Referring to Modi’s statement at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos that his government had replaced red tape with red carpet, Owaisi said the red carpet was rolled out for those resorting to violence.

MIM president alleged that Modi had meekly surrendered to “these people”.

The Hyderabad MP said there was no rule of law, as in the name of Rajput sentiments some people were being allowed to do whatever they want.

Owaisi said the manner in which the government acted on complaint by Rajputs that the film hurt their sentiments showed its bias.

“For the sentiments of Rajputs, the government formed a committee, changed the name of the movie, deleted many scenes and even heroine’s midriff was covered, but what about sentiments of Muslims whose personal law is being interfered with by the government,” he asked.

The MP said the government brought the triple talaq Bill without consulting the community and was trying to bulldoze it in Parliament by refusing to refer it to a select committee.

Owaisi challenges Centre to lift subsidy for Hindu pilgrims

Asaduddin Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad : MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday challenged the central government to stop the financial assistance and subsidy given to Hindu pilgrims in different parts of the country.

Reacting to the government’s move lifting Haj subsidy, the MP said the BJP, the RSS and others were raising a hue and cry over just Rs 200 crore and terming this as appeasement of minorities while hundreds of crores of rupees were being provided for pilgrimage and religious events in various states.

Owaisi said the Haj subsidy anyway would have been phased out by 2022 as per the order of the Supreme Court and hence there was no need for the Narendra Modi government to create a hype over this.

The Hyderabad Member of Parliament asked if the Bharatiya Janata Party governments at the Centre and in the states would phase out other subsidies as well.

“I am asking the BJP, the Prime Minister and the RSS if Haj subsidy was appeasement, then what was Rs 1,150 crore allotted in 2014 for the Kumbh mela, Rs 100 crore given by the Modi government last year to Madhya Pradesh government for Simhastha maha kumbh and Rs 3,400 crore spent by Madhya Pradesh for the same.”

He said the Adityanath Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh provided Rs 800 crore for pilgrimage to Kashi, Ayodhya and other places under rejuvenation and spirituality augmentation programme.

Owaisi also challenged the Uttar Pradesh government to end Rs 1.5 lakh subsidy being given to pilgrims for Mansarovar Yatra.

“The Congress government in Karnataka is also giving Rs 20,000 to each person who undertakes pilgrimage to Char Dham. Is this not appeasement of majority,” he asked

The MP said the Rajasthan government allocated Rs 38.91 crore for Devasthan Department in 2017-18. He said the state government allocated Rs 26 crore for temple renovation and training priests.

In Gujarat, the state government for last many years has been giving money to Hindu priests. “Is this not appeasement and vote bank politics,” he asked.

“Why did the Haryana government give Rs 1 crore to Dera Sacha Sauda. Was it for electoral appeasement?”

Stating that he had been demanding eliminating Haj subsidy since 2006, Owaisi said this money should be spent on scholarship for students of Muslim minorities, especially girls.

He reiterated the demand that the scholarships being provided to minorities should be made demand-driven so that all applicants receive the scholarships.
