Crazy AIMIM die-hards still whipping the dead Congress horse

Crazy AIMIM die-hards still whipping the dead Congress horse

Asaduddin Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi

By Soroor Ahmed

In this Post-Modern world it is really difficult to argue with and convince those who are still living in the Stone Age. Almost a fortnight after  the announcement of Bihar Assembly election results the hard-core supporters of the AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen) are busy celebrating in the social media the defeat of secular parties, especially the Congress —the party which is out of power for the last 30 years in Bihar and which, with just fifty odd MPs, is tottering nation-wide.  What these ladies and gentlemen overlook is that AIMIM was itself a constituent of Grand Democratic ‘Secular’ Front.

If the word ‘secular’ has such a nauseating smell why have the leaders of AIMIM agreed to have this name and join hands with Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party whose track record–so far communal issues are concerned—is certainly worse than that of the main partner of the Grand Alliance, the Rashtriya Janata Dal.  Instead it would have been much better to vote for Janata Dal (United) candidates than that of the BSP and RLSP, which has absolutely no base whatsoever in Bihar—neither they will have in the future. The BSP under Mayawati is almost finished even in UP.

Why Alliance With RJD, TMC?

The strangest aspect is that these social media warriors of AIMIM are not blaming RJD much. In fact now its supremo Asaduddin Owaisi has come out with a fantastic story that  he wanted to have an alliance with the RJD. If this secular party is so bad why has Owaisi extended his hand of friendship—if he is really telling the truth– towards the RJD. The fact is that Owaisi is saying so now after he is being held responsible for the failure of Grand Alliance.

In this era of search engines it is really easy to detect lies.  Is not it the fact that it was way back on June 8 that is just a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s virtual rally for Bihar, that the state president of AIMIM Akhtar-ul- Iman had unilaterally announced that his party would contest on 32 seats. That was the high time of Corona Virus in Bihar and no party, save the BJP, had started preparation for polls.  So when did the AIMIM leadership call on RJD for alliance, it is for its leadership to explain?

The even bigger question is as to why will any party join hands with an outfit which has the potential to cause counter-polarisation.

Is not it the fact that after the by-poll victory in Bihar’s Kishanganj in October last year that the Bengal unit of the AIMIM had announced that the party would contest in all the 294 seats  there. If you make such announcement unilaterally 18 months before the poll schedule in May 2021 then do not expect to have an alliance and that too with the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Whipping A Dead Horse

Throughout the election campaign in Bihar and even after the result both Owaisi and Akhtar-ul-Iman kept accusing the Congress for the backwardness of Muslims and Seemanchal in the last 70 years. His blind followers flooded the social media with the similar allegations.  What they failed to appreciate is that the Congress has been out of power in Bihar for more than 30 years—in as many number of years in UP and 43 years in Bengal.

Bihar has been in the hands of Nitish Kumar-led NDA for the last 15 years. Nationally the Congress is out of power since 2014.

The last time the Congress was in power largely on its own was between 1991 and 1996 under Narasimha Rao. That was the time when Owaisi’s AIMIM  (then led by his father) had a good relationship with the Congress—even though Rao is still held responsible by many for the destruction of Babri Masjid. The common enemy of both the Congress and AIMIM in the then Andhra Pradesh was N T Rama Rao’s Telugu Desam Party—now headed by his son-in-law, Chandrababu Naidu.

When the Congress was really powerful the AIMIM was with it. But when the party got weak and Andhra Pradesh was heading for bifurcation Owaisi broke his two-decades long relationship with the Congress in 2012. What a strange way of befooling the people!

So during the recent Bihar poll, as a part of strategy, the AIMIM repeatedly targeted the Congress for its failure in the past, but hardly raised the larger problems the people, especially of Seemanchal where it was contesting, were facing after the post-lockdown period when millions of labours were rendered jobless, were harassed and thrashed by police and authorities while on way back home.

Is not it a fact that police brutally assaulted migrant labours at Katihar railway station, when they demanded bus to be sent to their respective towns and villages? Is not it a fact that a Muslim woman, while returning from Gujarat to Katihar, died on her way home and her body was brought down at the Muzaffarpur railway station?

The photograph of this woman with two kids sitting beside her attracted the global attention.

Katihar is no doubt the biggest town of Seemanchal yet those who have their stomachs full would like all these facts to be forgotten. Instead it is easy to blame those not in power for three long decades, and that too on social media. How long will they keep whipping an almost dead party and not take up the prevailing challenge?

Owaisi Gives Clarion Call to Fight for Protecting India’s Pluralism

Asaduddin OwaisiMuslims, who lost a masjid to vandalism, desecration and eventual demolition, expected that their rights would be respected. Instead, the whole dispute was treated as a symbol to humiliate Muslims for the perceived historical wrongs committed by their ancestors

Mohd Aasif | NEW DELHI

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi has called on his countrymen to strive to protect India’s pluralism and diversity. India belongs to all and it is the common heritage of our forefathers.

He made the call at the virtual convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) on Monday.

“When people asked me that what is the way forward, I would only tell you that the way forward is to protect India’s pluralism and diversity which India’s constitution has guaranteed to every Indian citizen. And I am sure that all the Indians who believe in this strength and beauty will come together and ensure that we have an India of the dreams of our forefathers when they got independence in 1947. And I am sure, I will live to see that day,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi, who represents Hyderabad in Parliament, said it was working on the fascist agenda of the RSS. “The BJP is the part of a larger movement known as Hindutva which is rabidly anti-Muslim and the BJP has repeatedly mobilised public opinion against Muslim citizens. Its agenda has consistently sought to marginalise Muslims in India further and to deny them the rights to equal citizenship. To this end, it began a movement to reclaim temples and which were perceived to have been demolished and replaced by medieval Muslim emperors.”

Referring to the controversy surrounding Babri masjid, he said it was used to subjugate Muslims. The Supreme Court handed over the mosque’s possession to the very people who had conspired to demolish it in 1992. “Muslims, who lost a masjid to vandalism, desecration and eventual demolition, expected that their rights would be respected. Instead, the whole dispute was treated as a symbol to humiliate Muslims for the perceived historical wrongs committed by their ancestors. When the Prime Minister went to participate in the ceremony, the message was that a conqueror has righted the past wrongs and ensured Muslims their place. Yes, as Indian Muslims, we respect and accept the Supreme Court because the Supreme Court of India is a final apex court. But, as a retired famous late Supreme Court Judge has said, the Supreme Court is supreme but not infallible.”

Owaisi reminded his audience of the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Last year, the Modi government stripped the state of its autonomy, bifurcated it and converted it to a federally-governed territory. For over a year, the Kashmiri people have lived with severe restrictions to normal life. For over a year, eight million people have been forced to live without any modern means of communication, having to sometimes depend on landlines to communicate with each other.”

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said, was another divisive act of the present regime. India’s citizenship was based on birth, naturalisation and descent. The ruling party enacted the CAA which explicitly excludes Muslim refugees from becoming citizens of India. Furthermore, the government sought to introduce a national register of citizens (NRC) which would require Indian citizens to prove their citizenship through documentation. Those who do not possess such evidence are likely to be marked as doubtful citizens, he said.

Owaisi also referred to the hardships the people of Assam, specially Muslims, were facing because of NRC. “An NRC which happened in Assam under the expert supervision of the Honourable Supreme Court of India, the final list which came out excluded 2 million people. Now, in that, five hundred thousand were Muslims. The BJP government in Assam said, ‘we will give citizenship to all 1.5 million non-Muslims under the Citizenship Amendment Act which was passed by the Indian Parliament and we will not give it to Muslims of Assam.”

Muslims in India faced systemic and structural discrimination, he said, adding, they are the poorest religious groups and their poverty has only increased with each generation. Despite the economic and social discrimination, Indian Muslims resisted the law in an extremely peaceful democratic manner. “However, the ruling party’s response was to use state machinery to persecute Muslims,” he said.

He also brought in focus the anti-Muslim policies of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh and massacre of Muslims in Delhi in February. “Over 50 people were killed in Delhi riots. Majority of them were Muslims and hundreds of Hindus and Muslims lost their property in targeted acts of arson and loot. Over 16 mosques and Madrasas and religious structures of Muslims were desecrated,” he recounted.

According to Owaisi, the message of the Delhi riot was to teach Muslims a lesson. He mentioned the death of Mohammad Faizan. He, along with four other Muslim boys were forced by the police to recite the national anthem while they were in pain. So far not a single Delhi policeman has been arrested. “This death of Faizan can be compared to George Floyds’ death in your country. When George Floyd was killed by the police, America erupted. People came out in hundreds and thousands for George Floyd’s justice. But I did not see that for 23-year-old Faizan.”

He said the actual instigators of the the Delhi riots have not even been investigated, let alone, prosecuted.

Went on motorcycle to show how peaceful Hyderabad is: Owaisi

Asaduddin OwaisiHyderabad : AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said he went to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence riding his motorbike on Monday as he wanted to show how peaceful Hyderabad is to those who talked about driving him away.

“This is my city,” the Hyderabad MP quipped when asked about his bike ride to Pragati Bhavan, where he had three-hour meeting with Rao ahead of the declaration of Assembly election results on Tuesday.

“I want to show how peaceful Hyderabad is to those who wanted to drive us away and cut our throat,” said Owaisi.

He was referring to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Telangana BJP leader Raja Singh’s threats.

While campaigning for the BJP, Yogi had said that if the BJP came to power in Telangana, it will make Owaisi flee the way Nizam was forced to flee Hyderabad.

BJP leader and party candidate Raja Singh threatened to cut the throat of AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, the younger brother of Asduddin Owaisi.

During the luncheon meeting, Owaisi and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief discussed the strategy to be adopted after the results are known on Tuesday.

Owaisi, however, told reporters that he was sure the TRS will retain power and KCR will once again become the Chief Minister.

Owaisi ruled out MIM joining the TRS government, saying they were never after power.

The AIMIM had seven members in the previous 119-member Assembly and this time the party contested eights seats, all in Hyderabad. In the rest of the state it extended support to TRS.
