MUMBAI: The Dawoodi Bohra community members along with millions of Muslims across the world are observing the auspicious and holy month of Ramazan with fervour and enthusiasm. The community is involved in prayers, fasting and extensive charity as propagated in Islam.

In this holy month, the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Syedna Aaliqadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohras has been visiting and leading prayers at masjids located across Mumbai and in its suburbs. In a discourse relayed live across the world last week, His Holiness encouraged the community members to follow the tenets and principles of Islam with verve and devotion. He prayed for world peace and harmony, and specially prayed for the safety and well being of fellow Muslim brethren in the Arab world and elsewhere.

Additionally, the Dawoodi Bohras are also celebrating the 72nd birthday (Islamic calendar years) of their supreme religious leader on Thursday 9 July. Following his predecessors’ tradition, His Holiness has written a Munajaat (a monologue in supplication to Allah) in a poetry form which is now an integral part in the prayers of the Dawoodi Bohras during Ramazan. As part of the celebration, Ma’had al-Zahra, the community’s renowned institute in Quranic research and studies situated in Surat, has deputed professional Haafiz and Qaaris to assist community members to learn the art of recitation of Quran and commit the entire Quran to memory during this auspicious month. Over two lac community members are participating in this worldwide certificate programme of which some 20,000 community members are from the city. The programme is part of the ongoing initiative that aims to ensure at least one member in every Dawoodi Bohra household memorise the entire Quran as desired by His Holiness.

A large number of Dawoodi Bohras from across the world have converged in Mumbai to observe Ramazan with His Holiness and seek his blessings and greet Syedna Aaliqadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS on his Milad Mubarak and pay their respects to Syedna Taher Saifuddin RA and Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA at the Raudat Tahera mausoleum in Bhendi Bazaar.
