Prof. Akhtarul Wasey appointed as Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities

New Delhi: Prof. Akhtarul Wasey, Director, Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies, shall be the new Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities, a Constitutional Authority under Article 350-B, appointed by the Hon’ble President of India, for a period of three years.  Since 1957, when this Constitutional Authority was established, he will be the 12th person to hold this position.  The very purpose of this Commission is to ensure protection of the rights of linguistic minorities and its report is annually submitted to both Houses of Parliament.

Prof. Aktharul Wasey has been the Vice Chairman of the Delhi Urdu Academy and has also served as the Chairman of a Sub-Committee under National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education for the Promotion of Urdu Language and he has submitted his report last December to the Union Minister for Human Resource Development.
