New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel 3rd bowler in Test history to take all 10 wickets in an innings

by | Dec 4, 2021

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel scripted history on the second day of the second Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as he became only the third bowler ever to pick up all 10 wickets in a Test innings. Ajaz joins former India captain Anil Kumble and England spinner Jim Laker as the only three players to take all 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match. “Welcome to the club #AjazPatel #Perfect10 Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match. #INDvzNZ,” Kumble tweeted.

The 33-year-old continued his fine bowling performance from Day 1 where he claimed four wickets. On the second day, Ajaz once again tormented the Indian batters and spun a web around them to take the remaining six wickets.

Ajaz ended with figures of 10 wickets for 119 runs in 47.5 overs. Having emigrated with his family from Mumbai in 1996, Ajaz is the fifth Indian-origin cricketer to play for New Zealand since Ted Badcock, Tom Puna, Ish Sodhi and his buddy from school Jeet Raval.
