The Madhyamama Broascasting Limited has decided to move the Supreme Court after the HC decision
KOCHI — The Kerala High Court on Wednesday upheld a ban on Malayalam TV news channel MediaOne dismissing the appeal moved by Malayalam news channel MediaOne against the single judge order upholding the recent ban imposed on it by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
A division bench of Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly upheld the order passed by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting refusing to renew the broadcast license granted to MediaOne.
“We have perused the confidential files and we are convinced that there is threat to national security”, the division bench said while pronouncing the verdict, reports LiveLaw.
The Court in its judgment has observed that the appellants have failed to establish any jurisdictional error or other legal infirmities in the judgment of the single Judge warranting our interference in an intra court appeal, filed under Section 5 of the Kerala High Court Act, 1958.
On February 8, Justice Nagaresh had upheld the ban imposed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Post the High Court’s decision, the Madhyamama Broascasting Limited has decided to move the Supreme Court.
The Centre had filed its reservation against renewing the license in a sealed cover to both the single and division bench on why they have not renewed the license.
