by | May 24, 2022

Jailed Kashmiri activist Khurram Parvez, Supreme Court lawyer Karuna Nundy and billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani are among the 100 most influential personalities of 2002 as per the TIME magazine.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also on the list, which was released on 23 May.

Attacks against Khurram speak volumes of the truth he represents

Describing the Kashmiri activist as a “a modern-day David”, the magazine stated that he has give a voice to families that lost their children to enforced disappearances, allegedly by the Indian state.

“The attacks against him speak volumes of the truth he represents at a time when the world’s largest democracy is being called out for its persecution of the more than 200 million Indian Muslims,” it added.

Champion of women’s rights

TIME underscored the Karuna Nundy’s struggle against rape and sexual harassment in India. “She is a champion of women’s rights who has advocated for the reform of antirape laws,” it said.

He competes with Warren Buffett to be the world’s fifth richest person

The magazine linked Gautam Adani’s rise in the world of business to the rise of Narendra Modi in the Indian politics. It said, “With Modi’s stated goal of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2025, Adani’s journey may have only just begun.”
