INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

Mumbai: On the occasion of ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on 26 June 2014 a rally followed by a function was organized by National Cadet Crops (NCC) Mumbai to strengthen the resolve to fight against the menace of drugs.

The function began with the flagging off of the rally at Oval Maiden, opposite Session Court, at 1000hrs. The rally was flagged off by Shri A D Karanjkar, Hon’ble I/C Principal Judge, City Civil Court, Mumbai.  Approximately 250 NCC personnel participated in the rally. The cadets displayed posters and raised slogans against drugs as they marched up to SNDT University, at Churchgate. Office going crowd witnessed the noble cause of spreading awareness by cadets participating in the rally.

The main event was organized at SNDT University. A host of dignitaries were present during the occasion. The chief guest for the occasion was Brigadier S Grewal, the Deputy Director General of Maharashtra NCC Directorate. Speaking to the Cadets, he said that such programmes go a long way in guiding the youth of the country to join mainstream activities and contribute constructively towards nation building.

During the conduct of the event the gathering was shown a short movie, followed by real life experience shared by ex-drug users and talk by few of the guests. The children remained totally involved during the entire function. Towards the end a pledge was taken by all to continue fight against drugs.

The eminent personalities present during the function included Dr Vandana Chakrabarti, Pro VC SNDT Women’s University, Mr Eldred Tellies  Director NGO Sankalp Rehabilitation Centre, Mr. Kishor Jadhav,DCP Narcotics,Dr, Ravindra Shisve,DCP Zone –I, Mr. Anand Venkeshwar, Dy DSYS, Dr. Suman Jain Principal SNDT Arts & Commerce and NCC Officers & Staff.
