Jakarta, Indonesia (NNN-Bernama) : Indonesia is considering to invite foreign investors to set up a joint venture in the fishery sector in Natuna island district, Riau province.
Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reports that Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan saying, that investment, cooperation and development opportunities will be opened for the locality’s fishery industry.
This industry is estimated to hit one million tonnes of fish production yearly.
Also, Jakarta has asked China and Japan to support the island in bolstering economic development and creating jobs for locals.
For that matter, President Joko Widodo has instructed the construction of needed infrastructure and a cold storage in Natura.
The fishery industry in Natura needs to be developed and accelerated because the fishing capacity is so far only 9 percent of Natura’s potential.
Natuna is expected to become a large fish auction centre in the region like Japan. Natura is one of Indonesia’s outermost region, is known to have one of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world.
