Imam of Al-Azhar heads to Chechnya to explore avenues of cooperation

Cairo (AB/IINA) : Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders Sheikh Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb left Cairo on Wednesday heading to the Chechen capital Grozny, leading a high-level delegation, comprising Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr. Shawki Allam.

During the visit Sheikh El-Tayeb will meet with Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov to discuss mechanisms of cooperation between Al-Azhar and the Republic of Chechnya, Al-Azhar said in a statement.

The two sides will also discuss issues pertaining to the rehabilitation and training of Chechen imams and preachers, as well as considering scholarships for students coming to study at Al-Azhar, and the role of Al-Azhar’s missions in Chechnya, it added.

Sheikh Tayeb is set to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference on “Who are Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama’ah …”, in the presence of a gathering of scholars from around the world.
