Jeddah (IINA) – General Supervisor of the Saudi Project for the Utilization of Sacrificial Animals (Adahi) Ali Musa Alakasi expected that two large factories, at an estimated cost of more than SR 100 million ($ 26.6 million), will go operational next year for the production of halal gelatin and medical capsules from the slaughter remnants of about one million sheep.
Speaking to International Islamic News Agency (IINA) on Sunday, Alakasi said that the production line of the two factories will cover large needs of pure halal gelatin and medical capsules that are not mixed with other non-halal materials.
He stated that the medical products of the project will fulfil the halal and Shariah requirements, as well as the approved health standards, adding that the production line of the two factories will keep pace with the accommodation capacity of the project, amounting up to 1.5 million heads of livestock.
Alakasi said the project sales exceeded half a million Adahi coupons, worth $ 63.5 million, until Sunday. (The price of each coupon this year is SR475 or $127).
The project, established 34 years ago, so far has managed to utilize and distribute 19 million heads of livestock.
Alakasi expected that the livestock sales of the project to rise this year, following a decision to allow pilgrims to purchase coupons electronically and coordination with several Hajj missions that have already signed memoranda with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for the use of this program during Hajj.
