“Go with baby steps while implementing NEP: Prof D P Agrawal, UPSC ex-Chairman”
9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, November 8, 2022: Experts including three Vice Chancellors as well as former Chairman of Union Public Service Commission Prof D P Agrawal are unanimous that steps for the implementation of the new National Education Policy-2020 has to be slow and thoughtful since the future of our children is based on it. They expressed their views at a workshop on Review of Implementation of NEP-2020. The workshop was organised by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) here today.
The workshop was addressed by Prof. D. P. Agrawal, Former Chairman, UPSC; Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM; Prof. K. L. Verma, Vice Chancellor, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University; Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das, Vice Chancellor, KKHSOU. It was participated by top officials of USTM, faculty members as well as Prof. Urmila Patil, Dean, Academics & IQAC Coordinator, Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pune.
The workshop began with introductory speech delivered by Prof GD Sharma. He stated that USTM has already prepared curriculum following all criterion for the implementation of NEP 2020. A power point presentation was made by Dr Nurujjaman Laskar, Controller of Examinations and Admissions, USTM which highlighted in detail regarding the roadmap for the implementation of the NEP at USTM from the academic session 2022-23.
Addressing the workshop, Prof DP Agrawal said that one should start with small steps regarding the implementation of the education policy since the career and future of our students is associated with it. He also said that NEP is completely silent regarding any changes in Post Graduate education. “Right now, we should mainly focus on the implementation of NEP in the three-year degree course”, he emphasised. “In NEP, focus is not to inculcate courses, but to inculcate engagement”, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das said, “Flexibility and freedom is in the core of the policy and its mission is to produce global citizens. There are issues that need to be clear.” He expressed his concern regarding the difficulties in implementation of the NEP. Prof. K. L. Verma was of the opinion that the Government has also responsibility to those children from remote rural places of India and said that “global has to be started from local level”.
