Rabat (IINA) : The Seventh General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) kicked off Monday, under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, at the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization headquarters (ISESCO) in Morocco’s capital Rabat.
ISESCO Director General Dr. Abdulaziz Altwaijri, who is also the FUIW secretary general, said the conference will consider requests from 24 new universities for the accession to the FUIW.
He said in a statement to the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) that FUIW will be present, during the conference, several scientific projects in the field of developing university performance. These include Mechanism for University Performance Evaluation, and the Project of Islamic World Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation, which will monitor the best practices and successful experiences within the member universities, in order to be circulated and exchanged among the universities, as well as allocating a scientific session in the conference program for debate on financial sustainability and its role in the institutional development of universities’ performance.
In the second day of the conference, two roundtables will be held to discuss “Cooperation and Partnership to Develop Joint University Work”, and Financial Sustainability and Institutional Performance of Universities”.
It is worth mentioning that the ISESCO-affiliated FUIW was established in 1987, is a body with 314 universities and higher institutes so far.
