MUMBAI: The first death anniversary (Urs Mubarak) of the 52nd Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA is being observed with much solemnity since 1- 6 January by the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra community.

In Mumbai, the Urs Majlis held at Saifee Masjid, Bhendi Bazaar and presided by the 53rd Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS is being attended by thousands of community members and are also relayed to over 700 Dawoodi Bohra community centers across the world.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today, on the eve of the death anniversary of Dr Syedna, attended the Urs Majlis and paid his respects in the presence of His Holiness and a large number of Dawoodi Bohras. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Friday while meeting Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS at Raj Bhavan, acknowledged Syedna Burhanuddin’s contribution to humanity.

The Urs Mubarak event had commenced with a procession to celebrate Milad-u-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet MohammedPBUH on 02 January and was followed by the worldwide video relay of a recording of the Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA.

Knowing of the strong bond of love between the 52nd Dai al-Mutlaq and his followers, the 53rd Dai al-Mutlaq Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS, expressed his desire that Dawoodi Bohras from all parts of the world come to Mumbai to perform ziyarat.  In response, some 3 lac community members from over fifty nations have been visiting Raudat Tahera, the mausoleum of their beloved spiritual leaders Syedna Taher SaifuddinRA and Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA in South Mumbai. The grand mausoleum which has the entire Quran inscribed in letters of gold and precious stones has been the focal point of the community members, particularly since the last few days to offer their respects and express their love and devotion for their spiritual leaders.

Anjuman-e-Shiate Ali the local Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat in Mumbai is hosting the visiting Dawoodi Bohras from all over the world in the homes of more than 40,000 Dawoodi Bohra families residing in Mumbai, in two specially built townships in south Mumbai and across the 15 Dawoodi Bohra Masjids. Facilities such as online registration, allocation of special passes with time slots to visit Raudat Tahera, have been facilitated for the comfort and convenience for community members.  Over 3500 Burhani Guards volunteers, medical corps and other community members are assisting in making the event successful.

Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA passed away at the age of 102 in January 2014, after leading the community for 50 glorious years and giving it the distinct identity that it has today – that of a close-knit, educated, well-organized, peace-loving and forward-looking denomination.

On January 06, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS shall pay floral tribute at Raudat Tahera in the presence of thousands of community members and will deliver a sermon in remembrance of his illustrious father and impart moral and spiritual teachings and will bestow benedictions on the community members. On the auspicious occasion, Syedna shall also pray for universal peace and national harmony. The sermon will be broadcast live to all Dawoodi Bohra centers worldwide so that more than one million Dawoodi Bohras can collectively partake in this remembrance.
