New Delhi: India added 7.3 crore internet subscribers and 7.8 crore broadband subscribers in one year as the number of telephone subscribers reached 119.9 crore in the country, the Centre informed on Tuesday.
Total number of internet subscribers increased from 88.1 crore at the end of March 2023 to 95.4 crore at the end of March this year, with an yearly 8.3 per cent growth.
Broadband services also maintained their upward trajectory, with the number of broadband subscribers increasing from 84.6 crore in March 2023 to 92.4 crore in March 2024, according to latest data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The adjusted gross revenue (AGR) also increased from Rs 2,49,908 crore in the year 2022-23 to Rs 2,70,504 crore in the year 2023-24 with yearly rate of growth of 8.24 per cent.
The overall tele-density in India increased from 84.51 per cent at the end of March 2023 to 85.69 per cent in March this year, at an yearly rate of growth of 1.39 per cent.

New Delhi: Swedish furniture retailer Ikea said on Tuesday, August 20, that it is piloting same-day delivery in Hyderabad and has plans to scale it up across all its markets in the coming year.
Besides, it has also achieved the milestone of 100 per cent deliveries through EV-powered vehicles across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, as per its commitment for a sustainable value chain, said a statement from Ikea India.
The company also plans to achieve the same at its Mumbai operations, where it expects to reach the carbon-free goal in a few months, it said.
Now Ikea, as per its sustainability approach, will enter all new markets, including Delhi-NCR, where its next store is coming, with an EV-first approach, it added.
Currently, Hyderabad, Ikea stores are operational, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and two city stores in Mumbai.
Ikea India CEO Susanne Pulverer said: “For Ikea, a sustainable value chain is an essential part of our growth journey. This is just the first of the many milestones in that effort, and we are proud to lead the EV journey from our foundational years in India. We strongly believe that profit and planet can be co-created and will continue to lead with this mindset.”

Kolkata: CBI officers for the fourth consecutive day on Monday questioned the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh in connection with their probe into the rape and murder of a woman doctor.
Ghosh reached the CBI’s city office at CGO Complex on Monday morning, an official said.
Ghosh was asked to specify his role after getting the news of the death of the doctor, who he had contacted and why he made the parents wait for nearly three hours, he said.
Ghosh has been questioned for several hours in the last three days since Friday by the CBI officers.
The officers of the central probe agency are also checking his mobile phone call list details as well as his WhatsApp chat list.

Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways has announced plans to operate its iconic Airbus A380 plane to Mumbai for a special four-month period as it celebrates 20 years of its service to India.
Starting from September 1 until December 31, 2024, the double-decker aircraft will operate three weekly flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Mumbai (BOM), enhancing the travel experience on this popular route.
Since its first flight to Mumbai on 26 September 2004, Etihad’s relationship with India has deepened.
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said, “To kick off our celebrations for 20 years of service to Mumbai and India, we are thrilled to introduce our A380 on the Mumbai route.
“ While this iconic aircraft is typically reserved for long-haul journeys, for our 20 years of celebrations of flying to India, we will showcase the A380 on three-days a week for a period of four months.”
