Suchi Semicon to invest $100 million in chip plant in Gujarat, create 1,200 jobs

Suchi Semicon to invest $100 million in chip plant in Gujarat, create 1,200 jobs

New Delhi: In a fillip to the government’s chip manufacturing vision, semiconductor company Suchi Semicon on Wednesday said it is set to inaugurate an assembly and testing (OSAT) plant in Gujarat by November this year with an investment of $100 million.

Spanning an initial area of 30,000 square feet, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 3 million chips per day, generating up to 1,200 jobs, the company said in a statement.

The facility will focus on advanced semiconductor assembly and testing, in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Suchi Semicon said it has also collaborated with Gujarat Technological University and SVNIT to develop a skilled workforce for the semiconductor industry.

“Our goal is to address the growing global demand for semiconductors while also reducing supply chain inefficiencies. By creating up to 1,200 local jobs and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we aim to offer competitive pricing and high-quality services on the global stage,” said Ashok Mehta, Founder of Suchi Semicon.

This approach will reduce supply chain lead times and logistical costs, benefiting companies with design operations in India.

Modi Govt Favouring Adani with Waqf Bill, Says Aditya Thackeray

Modi Govt Favouring Adani with Waqf Bill, Says Aditya Thackeray

MUMBAI — During a spirited public meeting organised by the Dharavi Bachao Andolan on Sunday evening, Shiv Sena’s youth wing chief Aditya Thackeray launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of planning to transfer Waqf lands to industrialist Adani through the newly proposed Waqf Bill. Thackeray assured the gathering that Shiv Sena (UBT) would safeguard their rights, promising that “not a single Dharavi resident will be forced to leave.”

Addressing the audience alongside Member of Parliament Anil Desai, Thackeray criticised the ongoing tender process in Dharavi, alleging that 2,000 acres of Mumbai land had been handed over to Adani in exchange for 600 acres in Dharavi. “Once the Maha Vikas Aghadi government is formed, a new tender will be issued, Adani’s contract will be cancelled, and each resident will be given a 500-square-foot house,” Thackeray declared.

Thackeray engaged the audience by questioning who held influence over key political figures. “Who is Modi’s master?” he asked, to which the crowd responded, “Adani.” He repeated the question for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, receiving the same answer.

Severely criticising the Modi administration, he said the new Waqf Bill has been introduced so that Waqf lands can be handed over to Adani.” Thackeray further criticised the government’s social schemes, suggesting that they were insufficient. “They are giving only ₹1,500 to women under the Ladli Behan scheme, while substantial amounts are being directed to Shinde’s MLAs.”

Anil Desai expressed his commitment to defending Dharavi’s residents. “The people of Dharavi have trusted us, and we will stand by them as their protectors,” Desai said. He also urged law enforcement not to remove local hawkers, an issue of concern for many residents.

Centre takes U-turn on lateral entry positions, asks UPSC head to cancel ad

Union Minister Jitendra Singh sent a letter to the chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday, asking him to cancel the recent advertisement for lateral entry positions.

The letter cited the Prime Minister’s directions and called for the process of lateral recruitment to adhere to the principles of equity and social justice as outlined in the Constitution, particularly regarding the provision for reservations.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Saturday had advertised 45 posts — 10 of joint secretaries and 35 of directors/deputy secretaries — to be filled through the lateral entry mode on a contract basis. It is the biggest tranche of lateral recruitment being undertaken by the Centre, an official said.

Accordingly, online applications are invited from talented and motivated Indian nationals willing to contribute towards nation building to join the government at the level of joint secretary or director/deputy secretary…,” read the advertisement.

The vacancies in different ministries/departments with headquarters at New Delhi were expected to be filled on a contract basis (on deputation for officers of states/UT cadres, public sector undertakings (PSUs), autonomous bodies, statutory organisations, universities, recognized research institutes) for a period of three years (extendable to five years depending upon performance) through website https://www.upsconline.nic.in by September 17, it said.
