Amman (IINA) : Jordanian Former Prime Minister and Senator Samir Rifai stressed the significance of the Arab-League Summit slated for March 23-29, saying it presents a glimmer of hope to overcome challenges facing the region and offers an opportunity to start an Arab strategy based on the interests of the Arab Nation and future of its coming generation.
In an interview with Jordan News Agency (Petra), Rifai said the presidency of the summit by King Abdullah, its time and place as well as the number of countries participating make it one of the most important Arab summits. The availability of some agreed upon political solutions to some of the nation’s issues as well as field defeats of the Daesh terror group in its strongholds, as well as the worsening economic situation of the Arab countries give the deliberations at the summit importance in terms of timing, he added.
Rifai stressed the need to face foreign interference in Arab affairs, especially from regional parties, through an Arab consensus that imposes an agenda based on the interests of Arab countries and narrow gaps between these states and such interventions.
He warned that the situation in the region should not take us away from the centrality of the Palestinian issue being the core conflict in the region, especially in light of the Israeli right wing’s flagrant disregard for the legitimate international resolutions and the abandoning of the principle of two-state solution.
