A farmer leader said that the government would come up with a proposal on Wednesday
NEW DELHI—Home Minister Amit Shah’s meeting with farmer leaders on Tuesday evening produced no result except the decion to defer the sixth round of talks that were scheduled for December 9.
As many as 13 farmer leaders met Shah who was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
No consensus could be reached between the two parties. Following the meeting, a farmer leader said that the government would come up with a proposal on Wednesday.
He said that the meeting slated for Wednesday would not take place.
“No meeting will be held between farmers and the government tomorrow. The minister has said that a proposal will be given to the farmer leaders tomorrow. Farmer leaders will hold a meeting over the government’s proposal. The government is not ready to roll back the farm laws,” All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Hannan Mollah told reporters.
Dr Darshan Pal, another farmer leader who attended the meeting said: “We can’t soften our stand. We have vowed in front of the people of Punjab that we won’t return or lift the protest till laws are repealed. This agitation will go for long.”
The meeting was first scheduled to be held at Amit Shah’s official residence, but was later shifted to Pusa Agricultural Institute campus.
