The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to anti CAA activist Sharjeel Imam in a case registered in Aligarh. The case was related to a speech that he had delivered at the Aligarh Muslim University.

He was accused of sedition and promoting religious enmity in the FIR lodged at the Civil Lines Police Station in Aligarh.

Imam, however, would not be able to walk out of jail as he is yet to get bail in some cases particularly those related to Jamia violence and Delhi’s anti-Muslim pogrom.

Reacting to the verdict, his younger brother Muzzammil Imam said that this is “one more step” towards his release. In a tweet, he added, “[It] shows that eventually, truth prevails over lies, propaganda & witchhunt.”

Imam has already been granted bail in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in connection with cases related to the same speech.
