Khanapara,: Along with the whole nation, the ERD Foundation family is also grief stricken by the sudden demise of former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. In order to pay tribute to this great soul & pray to the almighty for his eternal peace, the foundation had arranged an “All Religion Prayer Meeting” on the evening of 29th July in the campus of Veterinary College, Khanapara. Religious heads of Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist & Jain communities performed their prayers in one single platform in front of a gathering of around five hundred students and faculty members from the ERDF group of institutions including some renowned personalities of greater Guwahati.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Kalam had visited the campus of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya under the foundation last year in July to grace as the Chief Guest in the “North East College Principals’ Conclave” organized by the University & enlightened with his magnificent personality. Dr. Kalam even promised the University authority that he will visit the campus once in every year.
Yesterday, the students, faculty members, staff and higher officials of the University gathered together at the Amenity centre of the University to pay their heartfelt homage to the great scientist of India. The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. P. G. Rao read out the condolence message in front of the gathering. He also announced that one of the academic blocks of the University will be named after Dr. Kalam.
The Hon’ble VC urged every individual at USTM to do cherish every enlightening words of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam that were truly inspiring. At the end of the condolence meeting, resolution was taken to follow the words of wisdom of this great “Missile Man of India” & to continue the quest for knowledge.
