by | Dec 9, 2021

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of protesting farmers, decided to call off its year-long historic agitation at Delhi’s borders on Thursday.

Farmer leaders received a formal letter with a proposal from the Union government, including the unconditional withdrawal of all police cases lodged against protesters during the agitation and and a committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Pictures shared by ANI news agency showed that the farmers removing tents from their protest site in Singhu on Delhi-Haryana.

“We are preparing to leave for our homes, but the final decision will be taken by Samyukt Kisan Morcha,” a farmer said to the news agency.

“We have decided to suspend our agitation. We will hold a review meeting on Jan 15. If Govt doesn’t fulfill its promises, we could resume our agitation,” said farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni following a meeting of Samyukta Kisan Morcha in Delhi.
