Industries Minister Minister KT Rama Rao launches Telangana Food Processing policy in Delhi on Saturday.
New Delhi/Hyderabad : Telangana on Saturday launched its food processing policy, aiming to attract Rs.20,000 crore investment in the sector over the next five years.
The policy also aims to make Telangana the number one state in milk production and livestock and generate employment for 125,000 people.
State Minister for Industries K.T. Rama Rao unveiled the policy at World Food India 2017 in Delhi.
He said the policy was aimed at promoting the opportunities available for investment in food processing sector in the state.
“The policy aims to double the incomes of farmers in the state,” said a statement issued by his office in Hyderabad.
The minister said the policy had been drafted with a goal to establish and promote linkages between agriculture and food processing sectors.
He stated that the current initiatives of the state government like sheep distribution and fish fingerling distribution would be linked to the food processing industry and thereby double the incomes of farming and rural communities.
The Industries Minister assured that investors in food processing sector would be extended all possible cooperation. The Telangana government would meet or beat an offer made by any other Indian state, he added.
At the World Food India 2017 event, the Government of Telangana has signed nine MoUs with food processing companies. These companies will bring in investments up to Rs.1,250 crore to the state and create employment for 10,000 people.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad : The Telangana government has decided to develop an exclusive industrial estate and IT corridor for Muslims.
The decision was taken on Monday by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting with senior officials and Muslim leaders.
It was also decided to construct the Hyderabad International Islamic Cultural Convention Centre on 10 acres of land in Kokapet here. The Chief Minister directed that work on the project should commence in three weeks.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Charminar and its surrounding area will be developed like the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said a 42 km stretch along the Musi river will be developed like the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat. He asked officials to make arrangements for plying metro and nano rail along the Musi riverbank.
Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali, Ministers K.T. Rama Rao and Etela Rajender, AIMIM President and Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Legislature party leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, state Chief Secretary S.P. Singh, Government Advisor A.K. Khan and other senior officials attended the meeting.
KCR said all the development schemes initiated by the government should benefit the minorities. For the self-employment of the minority youth, subsidy to units worth Rs one lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh will be given without having any link with the banks.
The Chief Minister said that minorities should have 10 per cent quota in the double bedroom housing scheme.
Also, tests for recruitment to government jobs will be conducted in the Urdu language along with English and Telugu.
Asaduddin Owaisi lauded the residential schools set up by the state government for minorities and said this would bring a revolution in the next 10 years.

Hyderabad : Fourteen companies have so far come forward to set up units with a total investment of over Rs 3,000 crore in the proposed Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Telangana’s Warangal district, an official statement said.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will on Sunday formally lay the foundation stone of the project.
Coming up on 2,000 acres, the textile park — claimed to be India’s largest — is expected to generate 66,000 jobs, including 22,000 directly. The project’s first phase will come up on about 1,200 acres at Shayampet and Chintapalli villages.
Hours ahead of the foundation stone-laying ceremony, the state government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in Warangal town, in the presence of Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao with various companies and organisations in the textile sector.
Youngone Corporation of Korea will set up a unit with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. Nandan Denim (Chiripal Group) will invest Rs 700 crore.
An advanced testing laboratory will be set up to ensure zero liquid discharge to control environmental pollution.
Telangana is one of the largest producers of long staple cotton at around 60 lakh bales per annum. The state was third in the country in cotton production during 2015-16.
The state is known for skilled textile workers but due to absence of industry, they migrate to other states for earning their livelihood, said an official statement.

Kolkata : Bengal business houses have shown interest in investing in Telangana and a city-based business group has signed an MoU with the state in packaged food segment, a Telangana minister said on Monday.
“We have met several business houses, staring with Emami, to discuss a number of potential business opportunities. We met R.P.-Sanjiv Goenka group and entered into an MoU with them for a specific expansion plan for packaged food,” state Industries and Commerce Minister K.T. Rama Rao said here.
He said his state’s officials also met other Kolkata-based business houses like Srei Group and had one-on-one meetings with Keventer Agro, Titagarh Wagons, mjunction and others.
“With Emami, we discussed for cement plants, bio-fuel (businesses), FMCG but these are all discussions. Srei Group has significant investments in the state. Keventer looks for a food testing lab and we are keen to get that in our state.
“Today (Monday), we have met the business groups here and tried to understand their expansion plans. We are also trying to position ourselves and not trying to takeaway anything which rightfully belongs to Bengal. We have fruitful meetings and looking forward for more,” he added.
The state has two lakh acres of land with the Telangana State Industrial Investment Corporation (TSIIC) for industrial usage, he said during the roadshow organised here by CII.
“In the last three years of our existence, we have been able to attract top companies. Top five technology companies — Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon — have their offices in the state. These offices are the largest offices outside their headquarters in the US and these are cutting edge R&D centres, not KPOs or BPOs,” he said.
Telangana introduced its industrial policy two years ago and since then the state has cleared more than 4,400 units and attracted nearly Rs 80,000 crore of investments and aceout of which, more than half is in the commercial production stage, he said.
According to the minister, the IT exports was at Rs 87,000 crore in the last year growing at about 13 per cent and 4.5 employees were directly working in the sector.
He said the state has generated a direct employment of 2.3 lakhs in the industries while in IT, the employment grew by 1.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh.
The government is also setting up a 350,000 sq ft space to incubate start-ups (T-hub Phase 2), he said, adding that the state planned to set up a dry port near Hyderabad in public-private partnership mode.
A Global Entrepreneurship Summit will be held in Hyderabad in November, he added.

Hyderabad, (IANS) Telangana and California have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint innovation, exchange and cooperation in alternative energy, environmental technology, health, agriculture and other technology-based industry sectors, business innovation, research and development.
The agreement with the office of California governor was signed during the ongoing visit to the US by a delegation headed by Telangana Information Technology and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
The MOU, signed by Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development (GO-Biz) Director Panorea Avdis and the Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department Jayesh Ranjan, connects the respective innovation programs and helps foster economic cooperation and economic development.
It will facilitate joint industrial research and development through their respective innovation ecosystems and enhance business relationships and educational opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, cleantech, smart cities, water conservation, biotech and agriculture technology, said a statement released here on Saturday.
Through this agreement, the companies that participate in the Telangana T-Hub will have access to resources and contacts within the GO-Biz Innovation Hub (I-Hubs) network which stretches from Redding to San Diego and includes 15 distinct I-Hubs making it the largest state sponsored innovation network in the US.
Likewise, this agreement opens opportunities for California companies to connect with the partners and companies within T-Hub network.
“This MoU will open new avenues for exchange of innovative ideas between start-ups in Telangana and Silicon Valley. I am confident that startups in both geographies would benefit immensely from this MoU,” said the minister.
“India and California have strong economic ties that make our respective regions natural partners,” said Avdis.
“The agreement with the Telangana government provides a framework for collaboration that will help innovative Indian companies invest in California and help innovative companies in our state access the Indian market,” she added.
