Patna : In another such case within a week or so, a young Muslim man in Bihar broke his Ramadan fast to donate blood to save the life of a newborn, officials said on Monday.
“I broke my fast to save a child because human life is more important than fast. I will keep the fast later to compensate but human life can’t be compensated,” remarked Mohammad Ashfaque who donated blood on Sunday to save the two-day-old child of Ramesh Kumar Singh and Aarti Devi in Darbhanga district.
Aarti had given birth to a boy after a caesarean operation at a private clinic in Darbhanga but the condition of the child deteriorated soon after birth.
After doctors asked Ramesh to procure O Negative group blood for the child, he posted an SOS message on social media, following which Ashfaque contacted them.
“When I came across the message for help, I simply approached the family and rushed to the hospital to donate blood. But doctors refused my offer since I was fasting. So, I broke my fast and consumed fruit juice and some solids,” said Ashfaque, who is in his late 20s.
Last week, Jawed Alam donated blood to an eight-year-old thalassemic boy Rajesh to save his life in Gopalganj district.

Compiled by Yousuf Saifuddin/Dubai : The holy month Ramadan attains great importance in Spain, including cities like Madrid, Barcelona and Catalonia, where numerous Muslim communities reside.
Many Muslims travel home for the holy month, meaning across the Strait of Gibraltar and to Almería and Alicante from Tangiers, Ceuta, Melilla, Algiers and Oran.
As common practice, Muslims in Spain get together for Iftar and organise social meetings in mosques.
The Islamic Centre of Madrid organises several activities during this month. After Maghrib prayers, mosques become a place of festivity and everyone eats hareesa and dates.
Women spend all day preparing traditional food for their homes and for their relatives and friends whom they meet at the mosque.
Other activities Spanish mosques organise include Arabic classes, Islamic culture classes and Qur’an and Hadith discussions.
It is noteworthy that an agreement of cooperation, between the Spanish State and the Islamic Commission of Spain was established in 1992 and approved as Law 26/1992. The law affirms in article 12.1 that: “Members of the Islamic Communities belonging to the Islamic Commission of Spain who desire, will be able to request the interruption of their work on Friday of each week, from 1pm to 4.20pm, as well as finishing work one hour before sunset, during the month of Ramadan.”
The Baizin neighbourhood in Granada, during Ramadan, is very similar to old neighbourhoods in Damascus, Syria or Casablanca, Morocco. One can see Ramadan pastries, religious cassettes and books, as they walk through the streets.
In the Spanish area closer to Morocco known as the Green Island by the Mediterranean, near Gibraltar, many restaurants owned by Moroccans tend to serve fasting Muslims.
Considered as the pearl of southern Spain, Marbella, or “City of Dreams” as visitors call it, is one of the cities where Muslim immigrants, including Arab visitors, enjoy the best atmosphere of harmony and tranquillity during this holy month.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel accepts gift from host of Iftar dinner at the Chicago Cultural Center.
Chicago, (IINA) – More than 275 Muslims attended an Iftar dinner hosted by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday night at the Chicago Cultural Center in the Loop, promising that he will pursue inclusion of all ethnic groups including Arabs and non-Arabs, The Arab Daily News reported.
Emanuel greeted all of the attendees and was joined by Chicago Alderman Joseph Moore of the 49th Ward. Moore is often applauded as being the “Alderman of Chicago’s Muslim Community” because of the large number of Muslims who live in his North Side ward and his strong support of Muslims throughout the city of Chicago.
Several American Arabs also attended the dinner and applauded as Mayor Emanuel spoke against hate, violence and the need for everyone to be included and his remarks were interrupted repeatedly by enthusiastic applause.
“I want this city, a city with a Jewish Mayor and a vibrant Muslim community to send a message loud and clear across this globe. If you offer hate, we offer love. If you offer fear, we offer hope. If you offer intolerance, we offer inclusion. And if that is the message of the city of Chicago, the city we call home, the city our parents came to like my grandfather,” Emanuel said.
“I want the rest of the country to see what I see and hear. Whether it is Christian, whether it is Jewish, whether it is Muslim. It has many languages. It has a common understanding of humanity. And it is our inclusion and our hope and our love that will beat out that hate, that fear and that exclusion.”
Emanuel shared the story of his grandfather who immigrated to America at age 13 after fleeing the pogroms of Europe, not able to speak a word of English and seeking out a third cousin to help him in the city.
“That within two generations his grandson would be the mayor of this city speaks volumes of who we are as a city and who we are as a community,” Emanuel said noting that all of the attendees had similar stories including Sadiq Khan, the newly elected Muslim mayor of London, England. Emanuel said he phoned Mayor Kahn to congratulate him on his achievement as the first Muslim Mayor of England’s largest city.
The mayor was introduced at the event by Muslim political activist Salman Aftab, who served as the co-chair and coordinator of the Iftar Dinner.
“Mayor Emanuel has much love for the city and he has done more for his citizens than most. In this time of Islamophobia and vilification, he did not turn his back on us. On the contrary, he sits here with us against those voices who try to separate us,” Aftab said.
“Let us carry the spirit of Ramadan not just today but everyday and let us work with the mayor to bring all Chicagoans regardless of religion or ethnicity together.
After beginning the program by asking attendees to offer a moment of silence and prayer for the victims of the terrorist attack that morning at Istanbul, Turkey’s Ataturk Airport, and for the victims of other terrorist attacks including in Orlando, Florida, Alderman Moore reminded the audience not to take the evening for granted.
“Muslims, like Christianity, like Judaism and like all the major world religions, their fundamental tenets talk about peace and love and forgiveness, not hatred, not terror.
At the end of the presentations, just before the evening prayers, Aftab and other organizers presented Mayor Emanuel with an oriental rug as a token of their appreciation.
Emanuel stayed for the entire event, including during the prayers before the buffet foods were served. Among those attending the dinner were many American Arabs.
Maghrib prayers were led by Imam Senad Agec with a Qur’an Recitation by Sheik Feysal Mohammad.

The al-Aqsa mosque compound is the third holiest site in Islam [AP]
Israeli authorities have closed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem to Jews and other non-Muslim visitors until the end of Ramadan, after two days of clashes between worshippers and Israeli police.
The decision will apply until next week, when the Muslim holy month ends, a police spokeswoman told the AFP news agency on Tuesday.
Clashes between Muslims and Israeli police have been taking place every morning since Sunday during protests against Jewish visits to the site during Ramadan.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said on Sunday that its medical team took seven Palestinians to an East Jerusalem hospital for treatment of injuries from sponge-tipped bullets, tear gas and beatings.
Palestinian officials said the trouble began when Israel allowed Jewish visitors into the al-Aqsa compound, the third holiest site in Islam, in breach of a tradition that allows only Muslim worshippers to enter during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
The period, which began on Sunday, is the most solemn for Muslims and it attracts the highest number of worshippers to the site.
Israeli police said officers at the Old City site revered by Muslims and also by Jews – who call it the Temple Mount – arrested four “masked youths who were disrupting visits on the Temple Mount” by non-Muslims.
The al-Aqsa Mosque compound is in the Old City of East Jerusalem, which Israel annexed in 1967 – in a move never recognised by the international community – as part of its occupation of the West Bank.
Jews and other non-Muslims can visit the site but are banned from praying there.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful
Assalamu alaikum warahmatu allah wabarakatuhu, Im so happy to have been asked by my brother Saif Alam siddiqui of Maeeshat Media Mumbai India to write an article about Ramadan and I hope this would be beneficial as I have included some Arabic texts as well.
The month of Ramadan is a blessed month for many reasons, so we must be sure to take advantage of all of its blessings. It is the month in which the Quran was revealed, in which the devils are chained, sins are forgiven, and good deeds are highly rewarded. There is a night near the end of Ramadan in which good deeds are worth a thousands months of worship.
Allah said:
The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. Whoever reaches the month, let him fast during it. Whoever is ill or on a journey, then fast an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship, and he intends for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that to which he has guided you, that perhaps you will be grateful. Surat al-Baqarah 2:185
During the month of Ramadan, Satan finds it more difficult to mislead the Muslims. It becomes easier for Muslims to perform good deeds and to ignore evil suggestions and bad thoughts.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
إِذَا دَخَلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ فُتِّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ، وَغُلِّقَتْ أَبْوَابُ جَهَنَّمَ، وَسُلْسِلَتِ الشَّيَاطِين

The month of Ramadan is blessed since Muslims can receive forgiveness for their sins due to their prayers and fasting out of sincere faith. We can have all of our sins forgiven in this month as long as we avoid major sins, as major sins like murder and theft require specific repentance and restoration of the rights of those who were violated.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
الصَّلَوَاتُ الْخَمْسُ وَالْجُمُعَةُ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ وَرَمَضَانُ إِلَى رَمَضَانَ مُكَفِّرَاتٌ مَا بَيْنَهُنَّ مَا اجْتُنِبَتْ الْكَبَائِرُ

In another narration, the Prophet said:
مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ
Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward, then all of his previous sins will be forgiven. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 760
And in another narration, the Prophet said:
مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

The month of Ramadan is blessed since the virtue of fasting is magnified, even though it is already a great virtue. Fasting benefits us by improving our devotion, self-control, and compassion for the poor. Fasting for the entire month is meant to instill the practice, philosophy, and values of fasting as a regular habit.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
قَالَ اللَّهُ كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ لَهُ إِلاَّ الصِّيَامَ فَإِنَّهُ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ
Allah said: All the deeds of the children of Adam are for them, except fasting which is for me and I will reward it.
The Prophet said further:
Fasting is a shield. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid intimate relations with his wife and arguments. If somebody fights or argues with him, he should say: I am fasting. By him in whose hand is my soul, the unpleasant smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord; then he will be pleased due to his fasting.
Until the next article insha Allah
