Rajasthan government employees plan massive protest over 7th Pay Commission implementation

Rajasthan government employees plan massive protest over 7th Pay Commission implementation

7th Pay CommissionJaipur : Angry Rajasthan state government employees have planned massive protests in district headquarters across the state on December 13, when the Vasundhara Raje government celebrates four years in office, to press their demands, including implementing recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission from January 1, 2016 instead of January 2017.

The state government had on December 2 this year announced that it would provide benefits to its nearly 12.5 lakh employees and pensioners with effect from January 1 this year under the Seventh Pay Panel recommendations.

Protesting against this announcement, a large number of state government employees gathered at Ram Niwas Garden here on Sunday to take out a protest rally to the Civil Lines area. The employees plan to stage protests under the banner of Akhil Rajasthan Rajya Karamchari Sankyukt Sangarsh Samiti.

According to Gajendra Rathore, convener of the samiti, the state employees will stage a phase-wise protest. On December 8, they will go on mass leave while on December 11, they will observe 48-hour fast. On December 12, they will observe a pen-down protest and on December 13, there will be a massive protest staged at district headquarters. The “failures” of the ruling BJP in meeting its promises will be highlighted on this occasion.

The employees will highlight the 14-point charter announced by BJP before the state polls which promised equal pay scale of state government employees with that of central government.

The protest will remind the BJP of its “failed promises” at a time when it celebrates its four years of formation of government in the state, said Rathore.

Opposition to observe November 8 as Black Day to protest note ban

1000 currency, note ban, one thousand noteNew Delhi : Opposition parties on Tuesday said they would observe November 8 as Black Day to protest against the “ill-conceived” decision of the government to spike Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, a year ago.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters that the opposition parties have worked out a joint strategy and would register their protest against the November 8, 2016, demonetisation decision.

“Demonetisation was an ill-conceived and hasty decision of the government. It is unprecedented, perhaps in the entire world, that a government had to alter its policy 135 times within a month,” Azad said, recalling how the government kept changing its rules in the aftermath of the note ban last year.

The decision to mark November 8 as the black day was taken at a coordination meeting on Monday that was attended by JD-U rebel leader Sharad Yadav, CPI MP D. Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, BSP’s Satish Mishra and Trinamool Congress’ Derek O’Brien.

National Herald’s ex-employees to protest in Lucknow

hERALD hOUSELucknow:(IANS) Former employees of Associated Journals Ltd., publishers of the now defunct National Herald, Navjivan and Qaumi Awaz, on Saturday said they would stage a sit-in demonstration at the office gate here from January 18 to 21 against the “step-motherly treatment” meted out to them by the management.

Before the sit-in, a general body meeting of the employees will be held at the office gate on January 16. This was decided at a meeting of the former employees union presided over by its president Kazim Hussain on Saturday.

In a statement issued by union general secretary Dilip Sinha, the Lucknow employees are demanding payment by the same formula that was applied for payment to their counterpart in Delhi which was promised by the management at the time of final payment  to them in January 1999.

Besides, the registered office of the company in Lucknow was closed in 1999, earlier than the branch office in Delhi which stopped publication of the paper in 2008, and the Lucknow employees are also demanding wages for this period.

Sinha said the meeting also demanded re-launch of the three newspapers and urged the chairman of Associated Journals Ltd. to hold a meeting with the union on their demands before the meeting of shareholders slated for January 21.
