Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Tehran : Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday warned that Iran will quit the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal if the interests of his country are not secured.
Iran and six world powers, namely China, Germany, France, Russia, the UK, and the US had struck a landmark agreement over Iran’s nuclear programme in 2015, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Xinhua news agency reported.
However, US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the deal on May 8 and reimposed sanctions, including an oil embargo, on Iran.
“If we come to the conclusion that JCPOA cannot serve the national interests, we will leave it,” Khamenei said during a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his administration.
Through his official website, the Iranian leader also expressed dismay over the EU, saying the Islamic republic “pins no hope on Europeans over JCPOA and economic issues”.
Iran has incessantly urged Europe to take “practical and tangible measures” to protect Iranian interests since the US pullout.

Tehran : Iran said on Saturday that it has not received the package of proposals from the European Union aiming to save Iran’s interests in the 2015 international nuclear deal.
The European states are still holding discussions to present their proposals, said Bahram Qasemi, spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Last week, Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said three European countries and the EU “have pledged to propose a package of practical solutions to secure Iran’s interests in the deal”, Xinhua reported.
Earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged the European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal to take “practical and tangible measures” to protect Iranian interests after the US pullout.
Iran signed the landmark nuclear deal with the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany in 2015 to halt its nuclear weapons programme in exchange for sanctions relief.
However, US President Donald Trump decided on May 8 to quit the Iranian nuclear deal and vowed to re-impose sanctions, including oil embargo, on Tehran.

Tehran : Iran and the US may hold talks on 2015 Iranian nuclear agreement, or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna, the media reported.
Citing Tehran Times daily, Xinhua reported the Iranian diplomatic team visiting Vienna for regular talks on the implementation of Iran’s nuclear deal would meet other participating sides including the US officials on Friday, a source close to the Iranian negotiators said on condition of anonymity.
The two sides would talk about the removal of sanctions on Iran as well as the examples of violations of the deal by Washington.
Representatives of Iran and other parties, including the US, Britain, Germany, France, China and Russia, launched the latest round of the JCPOA Joint Commission in Vienna on Friday.
Under the JCPOA, Iran must limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.
On January 12, US President Donald Trump waived nuclear sanctions against Iran, but warned that he would not do it again unless the deal is fixed.
Tehran, however, has repeatedly said it will not renegotiate the nuclear deal.
