Kuala Lumpur (IINA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project will be a game changer for Malaysia and Singapore including for economic generation, lifestyle and property value, BERNAMA reported.

He said the project, which is due to complete in 2026, would also generate new impetus in terms of economic development along the way not only in the Klang Valley and Singapore but also the towns in between. “Beyond that we think the future of Malaysia and Singapore that is going to be visualised by 2026, we see a very exciting future and that future will be a reality, once the project is operational,” Najib said.

Speaking in a joint press conference with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong here on Tuesday, Najib said with this project, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore would no longer be seen as distant cities but two closely-connected ones.

Najib and Lee earlier witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the HSR project, which signified Malaysian-Singapore commitment towards the landmark project.

The 350 kilometer rail line, which will reduce travel time between the two countries to just 90 minutes with speed of over 300 km/hour, will have eight stations between the two destinations.

Kuala Lumpur (press release) More than 1000 delegates converged at this year’s 9th annual World Halal Conference. Centred on the theme, ‘Halal at the Forefront of Social and Economic Change’ the conference gave way to empowering insights and sound knowledge of the Halal industry.

The event was graced by YAB Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, the patron of World Halal Conference who gave the opening remarks during the conference. A main conference was also hosted with a Ministerial Panel chaired by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, the Minister of International Trade & Industry Malaysia, a Global Leaders Panel Session, several concurrent plenary sessions on specific components within the halal eco-system, e-commerce, youth and women’s empowerment and a Business Networking Galleria by collaborating partners of WHC.

This year’s conference saw the collaboration of several partners including, Islamic Development Bank, Nestle Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Agro Bank, Ramly, Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd (CCM), East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce, Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), and Sugarscarf.

“We are honoured to see such strong commitment from our industry partners, together with the participation of foreign delegates and renowned speakers who have made this year’s conference a success. We urge for their continuous support; together we can take the Halal Industry to new heights, both internationally and locally,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Syed Jalaludin Bin Syed Salim, Chairman of the Halal Industry Development Corporation.

The conference also saw the strategic alliance of HDC and various SME’s in an effort to uplift the local Halal economy. One of which, was a Memorandum of Understanding between HDC and Nestle Malaysia Sdn Bhd that focused on building local productive capacity, enhance social inclusion, and promote environmental sustainability.Despite the lacklustre prediction of the global economic sphere, the demand for Halal products remain positive. Malaysia stands as the biggest Halal exporter next to China with an increase of 4% in its export value in 2015.

1000 delegates converge at the 9th World Halal Conference entitled ‘Halal at the Forefront of Economic and Social change’

Kuala Lumpur:( Press Release) Standing at the forefront of the global Halal industry, Malaysia’s Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), will host this year’s World Halal Conference (WHC) from the 30th until the 31st of March with the theme ‘Halal at the Forefront of Economic and Social change’.

The two-day conference will focus on various aspects of the Halal industry including the challenges facing the global Halal economy, the rise of Halal e-commerce and new business opportunities, and the need to develop talent. More than 1000 Halal stakeholders and foreign delegates are expected to participate in the conference. “The development of the Halal economy is led mostly by sizeable and growing Muslim population as well as the increase in Muslim consumer purchasing power. The world’s Muslim population is expected to increase by 35% in the next 20 years, rising from 1.8 billion to 2.2 billion by 2030,” said Mustapa.

Malaysia still assumes a leading role in the development of the global Halal Industry, and is intensifying its efforts even more in business trade and other commercial opportunities. Strategic collaborations and partnership between government agencies, consumers and producers remain the strategic initiatives in achieving sustainable Halal production.

Mustapa adds, “The economic growth within Muslim countries had led to an increase in disposable incomes, thus the need to ensure sustainability in the supply of Halal food and consumer products.”

The conference also saw the strategic allegiance of HDC and various SME’s in an effort to uplift local Halal economy. A halal e-commerce platform was also launched, aptly named HDCdirectory.com. The website will signify the efforts of HDC to engage and promote various Halal activities on E-commerce.

“Youth: The Halal Industry Successor” is one of the main topics that will be deliberated during the 9th World Halal Conference this year, hosted by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC).

The discussion was driven by panellist The Hon. Mr. Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports. “It is of extreme importance that the youth are engaged as the Halal Industry matures. They should take the opportunity to be involved in the industry in contributing to the growth of the Halal economy locally and internationally, especially with the aid of the Halal Innovation Ventures”, said Khairy. Khairy also added that the Youth community embraces technology such as social media and this lifestyle should be adopted into the Halal Industry.

He adds, “Many young Muslims affirm that religion plays a prime role in shaping one’s character. Muslim Youths who are the future drivers of the Muslim world should be at pace with the rest of the world in terms of technology and social exposure; yet remain steadfast in practicing Islam.”

Kazakhstan keen to strengthen bilateral trade with Malaysia

mALASIYAKuala Lumpur (IINA) – Kazakhstan is determined to continue and strengthen its bilateral trade with Malaysia despite global economic challenges, The Malaysian Insider (MI) reported.

According to a spokesperson for Kazakh embassy in Malaysia, several areas of cooperation in both the diplomatic and economic fields have been explored between Kazakhstan and Malaysia since the start of their official relationship in 1992.

These include the agreements signed during the visit by Prime Minister Najib Razak to Kazakhstan in May 2014 for the construction of a methanol plant and a liquefied natural gas plant as well as farm development involving cattle breeding in the country.

“From January until October 2015, mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Malaysia stood at $76.6 million (RM320 million) with total exports to Kazakhstan worth $76.2 million and imports valued at $396,300”, the spokesperson said. She noted that the bilateral trade was largely in Malaysia’s favor, having registered exports of $122.7 million to Kazakhstan in 2013 and $105.2 million in 2014.

She stated that the main items imported by her country from Malaysia included electrical and electronic products, appliances and parts, palm oil, lubricants, rubber products, clothing and furniture. In turn, Kazakhstan exported ferrous metals, surveying and measuring equipment, tools and pipe-fittings to Malaysia.

With the similarity of having a majority of Muslims, Kazakhstan, which is the ninth largest country in the world, has conveyed its interest to emulate Malaysia’s socio-economic development.
