New Delhi : The Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to merge into five entities all the 17 government printing presses across the country without causing any job losses.

The decision about the “merger and modernization” of the “underworked” printing presses was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the move would enable the government to take some 468 acres of land into the central pool.

He said surplus employees at any printing press would be “redeployed”.

“All the jobs will be protected,” the Minister said.

These printing presses are located in Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Odisha and Karnataka.

UP cabinet nod to ending interviews for class II, III and IV jobs

Govt jobs in UPLucknow : The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to end interviews for recruitment of class II (non-gazetted), III and IV government employees in the state.

The decision, taken at a cabinet meet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was one of the promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 assembly elections.

State government spokesman and Health Minister Siddharthanath Singh told the media that the state government has also approved the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for the Power Department employees.

Power Minister Srikant Sharma said that this would add an additional burden of Rs 33 crore every month.

The cabinet also ratified allocation of Rs 42.94 crore for construction of a Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan at Ghaziabad, as announced by Aditynath earlier. It was also decided that on lines of the wheat procurement initiated by the government, paddy would be procured through 3,000 centres.

The BJP state unit hailed the fulfilment of one of the major poll promises, with spokesperson Shalabh Mani Tripathi saying the measure will weed out graft from the system of recruitment.

Cook responds to Trump, creates more jobs in US

Cook responds to Trump, creates more jobs in US

US President Donald Trump and Apple CEO Tim CookSan Francisco : After US President Donald Trump announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook has promised to build three new manufacturing plants in the country, the Cupertino-based tech giant has announced plans to build a $1.3 billion data centre in Waukee, Iowa.

“Our new data centre in Iowa will help serve millions of people across North America who use Siri, iMessage, Apple Music and other Apple services, all powered by renewable energy,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, in a statement late Thursday.

“Apple is responsible for 2 million jobs in all 50 states and we’re proud the investment will add to the more than 10,000 jobs we already support across Iowa, providing even more economic opportunity for the community.”

The investment to build the 400,000 sq.ft facility will create over 550 construction and operations jobs in the Des Moines area.

The company is contributing up to $100 million to a newly created Public Improvement Fund dedicated to community development and infrastructure around Waukee.

Construction on the data centre is expected to start early next year and Apple plans to bring it online in 2020.

Last year, Apple spent over $50 billion with more than 9,000 US suppliers and manufacturers.

Since the launch of the App Store in 2008, US developers have earned over $16 billion in its sales worldwide.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal in July, Trump said he had a phone conversation with Cook.

“He’s promised me three big plants — big, big, big,” Trump said, referring to Cook.

“I said you know, Tim, unless you start building your plants in this country, I won’t consider my administration an economic success. He called me, and he said they are going forward,” Trump was quoted as saying.

The President has reiterated several times that he would bring jobs back to the US.

Microsoft to cut additional 2,850 jobs from smartphone sector

Microsoft to cut additional 2,850 jobs from smartphone sector

microsoftNew York, (IANS) : Hurt by a failed $7.6 billion Nokia experiment amid growing losses in the smartphone hardware business segment, Microsoft has announced to lay off an additional 2,850 workers to the previously 1,850 jobs it said it would cut.

In a regulatory filing, the tech giant said it will cut 4,700 jobs globally by the end of fiscal year 2017, PC World reported on Friday.

Last June, Microsoft had announced it will cut 7,400 jobs from the smartphone business unit.

Earlier in May, signalling the end of its Nokia experiment, Microsoft announced it was cutting 1,850 jobs and writing off $950 million of which $200 million will be used for severance payments.

“We are focusing our phone efforts where we have differentiation — with enterprises that value security, manageability and our Continuum capability, and consumers who value the same,” Indian-born Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a statement.

“We will continue to innovate across devices and on our cloud services across all mobile platforms,” Nadella added.

According to a report in The Verge, the latest job cuts mean that the majority of former Nokia employees will no longer be working at Microsoft.

Almost a year ago, Nadella had announced a “more effective and focused phone portfolio” with business, value phones and flagships gaining prominence.

“We’re scaling back, but we’re not out!” said Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s head of Windows and devices.

“Phone success has been limited to companies valuing our commitment to security, manageability, and continuum, and with consumers who value the same,” Nadella added.

Microsoft’s Lumia and Windows Phone strategy has failed as both sales and Windows Phone market share have declined since the tech giant’s mobile restructuring last year.

GCC states provide 17 million jobs for expats

GCC states provide 17 million jobs for expats

gccjobsGeneva, (IINA) – The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries announced their contribution to reducing poverty by creating 17 million job opportunities for expat workers across the member states, the Joint GCC Cabinet told the International Labor Conference in Geneva on Wednesday.

Speaking at the 105th session of the conference, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Labour and Social Development Mofrej Al-Haqbani said that expat workers send around $80 billion to their home countries from the GCC countries, which in turn, he explained, helped fight poverty in their own countries and reduce unemployment in those countries.

According to WAM, he said that the 17 million workers were making the economy of the GCC countries more active by contributing to big projects that develop these countries as well.

He said GCC countries are ready to participate in the UN 2030 program to combat poverty and are doing their part to help the UN reach its 2030 target.

The GCC also plans to provide more opportunities for women in the market so there can be more proportionate participation, especially in small- and medium-size businesses.

The Joint Cabinet also expressed concern over Israel’s treatment of Arab workers in occupied Palestinian areas.

They highlighted that there were limited opportunities for Arabs in the occupied areas with few rights, which has led to poverty spreading among Arab workers, and the occupied authorities are not doing anything to solve the problem.
