Mumbai 1993 serial blasts: CBI files supplementary chargesheet

Mumbai 1993 serial blasts: CBI files supplementary chargesheet

Mumbai 1993 serial blasts; CBI files supplementary chargesheetMumbai : The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed a supplementary chargesheet against an accused, Ahmed Kamal Shaikh alias Ahmed Lambu, for his alleged involvement in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, an official said.

The CBI lodged the supplementary chargesheet before the Designated TADA Court in the case registered 25 years ago.

Thirteen back-to-back blasts had rocked Mumbai on March 12, 1993 killing 257 people, injuring over 710 and destroying properties worth over Rs 27 crore.

Shaikh, one of the accused named by the CBI, had been absconding for the past 25 years and was arrested on June 1. He is in judicial custody.

Earlier, he had been declared a proclaimed offender by the Designated TADA Court, a non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued against him on September 17, 1997 and the Interpol had issued a red corner notice in his name.

The CBI probe revealed that Shaikh was part of the criminal conspiracy hatched for executing the blasts.

He had gone to Dubai and worked in close association with several other prime absconders such as Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, Chhota Shakeel, Tiger Memon and others, CBI said.

After the Dubai meeting, Shaikh was given training in handling arms and ammunition, bombs making and throwing hand grenades, investigations revealed.

On March 12, a series of blasts shook Mumbai at prominent locations such as Bombay Stock Exchange, Air India Building, Zaveri Bazaar, Mandvi Cooperative Bank, a location in Worli, Fishermen’s Colony Mahim, Plaza Cinema, Regional Passport Office, Century Bazar, Kattha Bazaar, Hotel Sea Rock, Hotel Juhu Centaur, Mumbai Airport Sahar Terminal.

Later, police made several arrests including mafia operatives, Bollywood personalities, businessmen, government officials and policemen.

From them finally 129 appeared for trial and 100 were found guilty, including several absconders who had left the country for Dubai or Pakistan shortly after the blasts and still elude the law.

One of the accused, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was convicted and he completed his five-year sentence in February 2016, while another accused, Yakub Memon was hanged in Nagpur Central Jail in July 2015.

After ‘Dharam Sabha’, straight to Ram temple’s construction: VHP

After ‘Dharam Sabha’, straight to Ram temple’s construction: VHP

VHP, RSS, Hindu sena, Hinduism,Lucknow : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said on Friday that the scheduled ‘Dharam Sabha’ in Ayodhya on Sunday was its “last effort” to clear the hurdles for the construction of a Ram temple in the temple town.

The meeting has been called to discuss a strategy for the early construction of the temple.

In a statement, VHP regional organisational secretary Bholend said there would be no more congregations and the next stop for them would be the beginning of the temple’s construction.

Ab mandir nirman ke liye sabhayein, pradarshan aur dharna ityadi nahin honge na hi virodhiyon ko samjhaya jayega…seedhe mandir nirman hoga (There would no longer be meetings, processions and protests for Ram temple, opponents will no longer be engaged with… There will only be temple construction),” he added.

This is the last time an effort is being made to make the people opposing the temple construction realise the facts, the VHP leader said.

He also said that if all efforts fail, then “war” was the only way.

The Hindu outfit has also targeted Congress President Rahul Gandhi and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and said that they were only playing to the gallery.

By wearing a ‘janeyu’ (sacred thread), travelling to Kailash Mansarovar and chanting the names of some gods does not make them devoted Hindus, the VHP leader said.

Hundreds and thousands of VHP cadres are slated to attend the ‘Dharam Sabha’ on Sunday in the temple town.

The RSS and its other affiliates have also thrown in their support to make the event a show of strength so that the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre can be pressurised into acting for the early construction of the temple.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will also take part in some events.

Kamal Nath asks Muslim Congress workers for ‘90% polling’; BJP calls it ‘disgusting’

Kamal Nath

Kamal Nath

New Delhi : In a video which went viral on social media on Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh state Congress President Kamal Nath is seen asking Muslim workers of his party to ensure “90 per cent polling” in the community-dominated booths to “save” the party from a “big loss”.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to give a communal colour to the video and terms the video as “disgusting and divisive”.

The video purportedly shows Nath asking workers to take out the figures from last elections and do a “postmortem” as to why the polling percentage was only 50-60 per cent in the Muslim majority booths.

“Resolve today that you would ensure 80-90 per cent polling in your booths. If we don’t get 90 per cent votes of the Muslim community, we may suffer a big loss,” he is seen telling the workers.

“…You (Muslim Congress workers) will have to take care of your own society, not just for the Congress but for the whole state,” he said.

The meeting where the video was shot apparently took place in October.

Reacting to the video, BJP Spokesman Sambit Patra accused the Congress of indulging in “politics of appeasement”.

“It is absolutely disgusting and divisive. What Kamal Nath is saying is just an extrapolation of what his party President Rahul Gandhi has said during a meeting with Muslim intellectuals that Congress is indeed a party of the Muslims,” Patra said in Indore.

Madhya Pradesh will vote on November 28 in a single phase to elect a new Assembly.
