People from certain community fled Jharkhand: Bengal CM

People from certain community fled Jharkhand: Bengal CM

Mamata BanerjeeKolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday alleged that several people from a certain community fled BJP ruled-Jharkhand to Bengal after police firing on them on Eid al-Adha and are being treated at hospitals in her state.

At least a dozen persons, including five policemen, were injured after villagers clashed with police over reports of alleged cow slaughter in Jharkhand’s Pakur district on Wednesday during Eid celebrations. Cow slaughter has been banned in Jharkhand since 2015.

According to police, the clashes took place after a police team arrived at Dangapara village and tried to stop animal slaughter in public.

“Several people belonging to a specific community were shot at in Jharkhand on Eid. They fled to Bengal and were admitted in our hospitals for treatment. Why would the BJP shoot people of a specific community just because they are the ruling party there? Isn’t it inhuman?” Banerjee said at the state Secretariat Nabanna here.

“It is mentioned in the United Nations’ convention that one has to give shelter to the refugees, whether they come from across the state or across international border. So, we are treating them here. But such incidents should not happen,” she said.

Accusing the BJP of trying to regulate people’s food habit, Banerjee dared the party to ban beef in northeastern states.

“Tribals and people from the northeast eat beef. Several Christians in European countries also eat it. I dare the BJP to ban beef in the northeast. Why can’t they do it there?” she said.

“We have no right to dictate what others will eat. Plants also have life. What will happen if someone raises questions about eating vegetables like potato? This is not right,” she claimed.

Banerjee alleged that the BJP was intimidating and buying off news channels while politicians of other parties were being threatened by misusing central agencies.

“We are living in an autocratic situation. The Centre’s ruling party (BJP) is deciding which agency will conduct raids in whose house, which television news channels should be stopped from broadcasting or which reporter should be sacked from a newspaper,” she said.

“The agencies conducted raid at the house of Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s officer yesterday (Thursday). They also raided the office of Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal recently. Such things never happened in the country before. But their advantage is that they have bought off the entire national news channels,” she added.

Maeeshat Correspondent,

New Delhi: In the backdrop of the recent attacks by Gau Rakshaks or cow vigilantes and central government’s restrictions on sale/purchase of cattle from cattle markets, India’s top Muslim leadership on Wednesday issued a joint national advisory for the community.

While admitting that “due to a particular situation, you may encounter certain difficulties in procuring and sacrificing the animal for qurbani” this time, the leaders asked Muslims that “Despite these difficulties, the people who can afford it should definitely perform the qurbani (sacrifice).”

“Just because of difficult circumstances, you should not become negligent of this important responsibility. In fact you should help each other and observe the qurbani in the same manner as you have been doing previously,” they said.

They also asked the community not to sacrifice animals on the roads, ensure cleanliness and hygiene and not allow relations (with neighbors especially people from other faiths) to become strained. “You must exercise maximum self-control and self-restraint and should not take the law in your hands under any circumstances,” they said.

Full Text of the Advisory:

Eid ul Adha will be celebrated InshaAllah after a few days. ”Eid Mubarak” to all of you. Please take care of the following important things during Eid.

  1. This time, due to a particular situation you may encounter certain difficulties in procuring and sacrificing the animal for ”qurbani”. Despite these difficulties, the people who can afford it should definitely perform the qurbani (sacrifice). Just because of difficult circumstances, you should not become negligent of this important responsibility. In fact you should help each other and observe the qurbani in the same manner as you have been doing previously. One should always keep in mind the warning given by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that: “the person who does not offer qurbani despite having the means to do so, should not enter our Eidgah”
  2. Qurbani is not merely a ritual or a custom but it is a Sunnah of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) which the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) followed. Qurbani is an important form of worship. It cannot be replaced by some other acts of piety. Therefore one must obey and follow the injunctions of Deen and Shariat. Please ensure to recite the ”Takbeer” during the days of Eid.
  3. Do not offer the qurbani on the roads, footpath and pathways, rather perform the qurbani in open spaces. Kindly ensure that you are burying the blood and entrails of the animal in the earth after the qurbani. Kindly ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene.
  4. Try to perform the qurbani at collective (ijtemaee) level in neighborhoods, towns and cities. Meaning you should try to procure a ground or space where people can bring their animals and do their qurbani.
  5. Do not give chance by your actions and behavior for any kind of complaint to your neighbors especially those belonging to other faiths. You should not allow relations to become strained and must exercise maximum self-control and self-restraint. You should not take the law in your hands under any circumstances.
  6. You should form a committee comprising of some senior and serious citizens, a few days before Eid. This committee will be responsible to keep an eye on the situation, control the situation if required and prevent it from deterioration and ensure that the whole process of qurbani passes off smoothly under their supervision. This committee should also keep in touch with the local administration and draw their attention towards maintaining law and order in the area.
  7. Avoid spreading rumors. If you come across news of some unpleasant incident then immediately bring it to the notice of the above mentioned committee and take the necessary action only after thoroughly cross-checking the veracity of the reported incident. The central mosques should encourage Muslims to perform qurbani and also explain the various jurisprudence matters (masaail) related to qurbani.
  8. And lastly pray to Almighty Allah that this Eid proves to be a blessed one for our community, for the country and the whole world.
