Sudan affirms importance of enhancing partnership with WIPO

Sudan affirms importance of enhancing partnership with WIPOKhartoum : Vice President of Sudan Dr Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir stressed the importance of deepening partnership with the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), noting the significance of the intellectual property and its tools in the economic, social and cultural role in the country.

During his meeting here on Sunday with WIPO Deputy Director General John Sandage, Kibir called on the Organization to support the intellectual property in Sudan and to cooperate in the spreading of the culture of intellectual property and patents in the country through capacity building.

Registrar General of the Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice Adul-Khalid Hilal said in a press statement that Sandage’s visit to Sudan has witnessed intensive activities. They included a meeting with the minister of justice; holding a workshop on capacity building and patents; ways to transform from the local to international level via Sudan’s membership in the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT); outcome of registration and protection in the national, regional and international levels; and the role of patent in technology transfer.

On his part, Sandage expressed appreciation of Sudan’s progress in intellectual property as well as the support of the state for the promotion of the intellectual property and the use of its tools.

It is noteworthy that the visit of the WIPO deputy director general to Khartoum comes in response to an invitation extended to him last September by the minister.
