Congress sharing users’ data with Singapore-based firm: BJP

Congress sharing users’ data with Singapore-based firm: BJP

SmartphoneNew Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Congress of sharing users’ date to a Singapore-based firm.

The accusation comes a day after Congress President Rahul Gandhi referred to a media report in which a French vigilante hacker in a series of tweets alleged that the personal data including email IDs, photos, gender and names of the users of Prime Minister Modi’s mobile app were being sent to a third party domain without their consent.

“Hi! My name is Rahul Gandhi. I am the President of India’s oldest political party. When you sign up for our official Application, I give all your data to my friends in Singapore,” BJP leader Amit Malviya said in a series of tweets attaching screenshots of the Congress’ website privacy policy listings.

Malviya is in-charge of BJP’s national Information and Technology wing.

“Full marks to Congress for stating upfront that they’ll give your data to practically anyone – undisclosed vendors, unknown volunteers, even groups with similar causes. In theft of all forms, Congress has never been discreet!

“When Congress says they will share your data with like-minded groups, the implications are grave. From Maoists, stone pelters, Bharat ke Tukde Gang, Chinese embassy to globally ‘renowned’ organisations like Cambridge Analytica, the field is extensive and wide open.

“Inspired by Sonia Gandhi’s all power no accountability dictum, Congress will take all your data, even share it worldwide with organisations like Cambridge Analytica but will not take responsibility of it! Their own policy says so,” the BJP leader said.

Earlier, the BJP accused the Congress of compromising national security by roping in political data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica to run its 2019 election campaign.

The London-based data consultancy firm is currently in the midst of a global row after reports surfaced that the data of more than 50 million Facebook users were inappropriately used by Cambridge Analytica, in activities allegedly connected with US President Donald Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Congress wins 3 seats, BJP 1 in Karnataka RS polls

Congress wins 3 seats, BJP 1 in Karnataka RS polls

L. Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and G.C. Chandrasekhar of the Karnataka CongressBengaluru : The ruling Congress on Friday won three seats and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) one in the Rajya Sabha biennial election for four seats in Karnataka, said an election official.

“All three Congress candidates and one from the BJP won the contest while the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) candidate lost,” an Election Commission official told reporters here after counting of votes.

L. Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and G.C. Chandrasekhar of the Congress and Rajeev Chandrashekar of the BJP were declared elected by the Returning Officer.

B.M. Farooq of the JD-S lost to G.C. Chandrasekhar of the Congress in the contest for the fourth seat, as his party (JD-S) boycotted the bypolls after two of its members cast their votes earlier in the day.

Of the three Congress winners, Chandrasekhar secured 46 votes as against two by Farooq, L. Hanumanthaiah got 44 and Hussain 42, while BJP’s Rajeev Chandrashekar bagged 50, the highest among the four contestants.

“Of the 188 votes polled, 184 were valid and four were declared invalid,” Joint Electoral Officer K.N. Ramesh told IANS.

For BJP’s Chandrashekar, the win takes him to the upper House of Parliament for the third consecutive term after completing two terms as an Independent from the southern state.

Farooq, richest among all the five candidates, lost for the second consecutive time after he suffered a defeat in the 2016 biennial election from a Congress candidate (K.C. Ramamurthy).

Farooq, 51, declared an income of Rs 770 crore in his affidavit filed with the Election Commission on March 9.

In the 225-member state legislative assembly, including one nominated, the Congress has 122 legislators, BJP 48, JD-S 40 and seven are vacant.

Of the 40 JD-S members, seven rebel legislators voted for the Congress, making its third candidate (Chandrasekhar) get 46 votes.

Crying foul play in the election process, the JD-S boycotted the polling when its members found two Congress legislators voting a second time after initially cross-voting.

The two Congress members were Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa and Baburao Chinchansur.

“Election officers are working like the ruling party’s agents. Two senior Congress MLAs, who cross-voted, were given ballots again by the Returning Officer to cast their votes for their nominated candidates,” JD-S state president H.D. Kumaraswamy told the media.

The by-election was held to fill the vacancies arising out of the retirement of incumbent members Basawaraj Patil, Rahman Khan and R. Ramakrishna of the Congress and Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Linking Congress to data scam diversionary tactics: Rahul

Linking Congress to data scam diversionary tactics: Rahul

Rahul GandhiNew Delhi : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the Modi government had for years lied about the fate of 39 Indians killed in Iraq and was now diverting public attention from it by alleging that his party had links with a firm accused of misusing personal data of Facebook users.

“Problem: 39 Indians dead; Government on the mat, caught lying. Solution: Invent story on Congress and data theft. Result: Media networks bite bait; 39 Indians vanish from radar. Problem solved,” Gandhi said in a tweet.

Gandhi’s remarks came a day after Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the Congress of compromising national security by roping in political data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica to run its 2019 election campaign.

The Minister alleged that the firm had been found involved in data manipulation and warned that any attempt to misuse social media to influence India’s electoral process would not be tolerated.

Congress Communications Incharge Randeep Singh Surjewala also attacked the government, accusing it of deceiving the families of those dead in Iraq and the nation.

“Another lie, another spin exposed as truth unravels. All 39 Indians had died years ago as the evidence and witnesses suggested and corroborated now by Martyrs Foundation. Yet Modi government lied, duped and deceived the families and the Nation,” Surjewala tweeted.

He accused the government of not paying compensation to the families of those killed.

“Families ask questions – 1. Why did Modi government and Sushmaji mislead them for 4 years? 2. Why does the government not reveal the date of death? 3. What evidence did the EAM have of them being alive for all these years? 4. Why is government not agreeable to compensating the families?” he asked.

Country feeling tired under Modi, Congress will bring change: Rahul

Country feeling tired under Modi, Congress will bring change: Rahul

Rahul GandhiNew Delhi : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the country, feeling tired under the Modi government, was seeking change in the 2019 general election and only his party can show the path forward.

In his presidental remarks at the party’s 84th Plenary here, Gandhi said the meeting was aimed at setting the future direction not only of the Congress but of the entire country.

Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his governmnent, which will complete four years in office in May. He said the country was looking for a change in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

He accused the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) of dividing the society and said that only Congress can heal the divisions.

“Today anger is being spread in the country, the country is being divided and people are being made to fight each other. But our work is to bring people together.”

He said various sections, including youth and farmers, were feeling disenchanted under the BJP government.

“The crores of youth, who are feeling tired today, when they look towards Modi, they are unable to see a way forward.

“They do not know from where will they get employment, when will farmers get proper price for their crops. The country is in a way tired, is seeking a way out.

“And I say from my heart that only the Congress can show the path to the country,” Gandhi said to cheers from the gathering.

“The aim of plenary is to show the path forward to the Congress and the country. It is talking of the future, it is talking of change.”

The Congress President recalled contributions of leaders including his mother Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Kartanataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram “in fighting the battle of the Congress” and “protecting its symbol”.

The Congress chief talked of the need for a balance between youth and experience in the party.

“In our tradition, there is change but we do not forget the past. There is talk of youth but I want to say from this stage that youth will take the Congress forward but cannot move ahead without the experienced leaders. My task is to connect the youth and the seniors,” he said.

Gandhi said his task was to show a new direction to the party.

“What is the difference between the Congress and our opposition. There is one big difference. They use anger. We use love, brotherhood. The country belongs to us all, is of every religion, every community and every citizen.

“And whatever the Congress does, it will do for every individual of the country and not leave any one behind,” he said.

Referring to the Congress’ symbol of hand, Gandhi said, “This is the symbol that can bring the country together, take it forward. And the power of this symbol is within you. The work of forging the unity will have to be done together by all of us and people of the country.”

The plenary, being held after eight years, has definitive stamp of Gandhi. Unlike the past, leaders are not seated on the dias. Workers and young leaders have been given more opportunity to speak on the resolutions.

The meeting is being attended by AICC members from all over the country besides office-bearers.A .

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the plenary which will conclude on Sunday.

Sonia attacks Modi government, says freedom under ‘sustained assault’

Sonia attacks Modi government, says freedom under ‘sustained assault’

Sonia Gandhi and Narendra ModiMumbai : UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday launched a direct attack against the Modi government, alleging that freedom of the people was “under systematic and sustained assault” as provocative statements from the ruling establishment were neither random nor accidental but “part of a dangerous design”.

Delivering the keynote address at the India Today Conclave 2018 here, the former Congress President all that was being done by attempts to rewrite history, falsifying facts and attacking nation builders.

“Our society, our freedom all are now under systematic and sustained assault. Make no mistake about it. This is a well sort out project long in the making to refashion the very idea of India,” Gandhi said.

“The freedom to think for oneself and differ and degree and to meet or marry according to ones wishes all this and more are under attack.

“Provocative statements from the ruling establishment are not random or accidental. They are part of a dangerous design,” she said and added that vigilante mobs and private armies have been let loose with state patronage.

She said callous remarks were being made about changing the Constitution of the country that “point to a deliberate attempt to subvert the very essence of India”.

“Parliamentary majority is being interpreted as a licence to stifle debate. Our freedoms are under attack. Our people are increasingly impatient,” Gandhi said.

She asserted that it was not in her nature to be a “voice of gloom and doom but we need to see things the way they are”.

“The evidence of this new and deeply troubling direction is there for every one to see. Fear and intimidation are the order of the day, alternative voices are being silenced. In far too many cases through violence and even murder.”

She spoke about the violence against Dalits and minorities saying there was “shocking insensitivity to atrocities on Dalits”.

“Society has been polarised with an eye for winning elections. Religious tensions are being fueled.”

Gandhi also took a dig at Modi for his frequent coining of acronyms in the name schemes and government programmes.

“We need to move fast, but fast, F.A.S.T., cannot stand for First Act, Second Think. Acronymising can be contagious,” she said to a laughter from the audience.

“India is a great country, a wonderful country, let us protect it, cherish it,” Gandhi said, ending her speech to a loud applause.
