My film Secret Superstar a step towards gender equality: Aamir Khan
Maeeshat Desk,
Istanbul/Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Mr. Aamir Khan, who is in Turkey on promotion tour, has said that his upcoming film Secret Superstar is a “step in the right direction” towards gender equality.
He expressed deep concern on gender discrimination – an evil rampant in every part of the world.
“I feel that women have not been given the equality they deserve. I think it is not just Turkey or India. All across the world, historically, for many years now, half of the population has always had a secondary position,” said 52-year-old actor whose films have often hit box offices in India and abroad.
He reached Turkey on Wednesday on a special invitation from the country’s Culture Ministry. During the five-day long trip, he will be interacting with filmmakers, students and cinemagoers in Ankara and Istanbul
He was surprised to learn about his huge fan following in Turkey.
In the film Secret Superstar, Mr. Khan plays the role of a music director. The film is about the story of a 14-year-old girl who pursues her dream of becoming a singer.
“Whether it is a girl or boy, or a man or a woman, there should be complete equality and equal opportunities should be available to everyone,” Anadolu news agency quoted him as saying.
