Salim Khan
Mumbai : Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan on Thursday told Maulana Salman Hussaini Nadvi, who favoured handing over the disputed land in Ayodhya where the Babri Masjid once stood for the construction of the Ram temple, that the eminent cleric being a part of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) was a liability.
“Salman Nadwi sahab, whether the AIMPLB asked you to step down or you quit, it was a blessing in disguise, as being part of the committee was anyway a liability. Please look up incidents in history where any change has been brought about by one person and not by any party or committee,” Salim tweeted on Thursday.
“Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Jesus Christ and Gautam Buddha to name a few. You have started a movement which has a lot of followers and is growing. Also please note this world has more peace lovers than destructive people and that is why the world has survived. Love each other or perish,” he added.
Salim’s tweet comes after a general body meeting on February 10-11, where over 500 people participated and an unanimous decision was made to remove Nadvi from the Board.
Nadvi had triggered a row on the eve of the plenary by mooting a proposal after his meeting with Sri Sri Ravishankar that the disputed land in Ayodhya, where the Babri Masjid stood till December 1992, should be handed over for the construction of the Ram temple.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s joint Press conference at the conclusion of 26th plenary session at Hyderabad on Sunday.
Opposed to its penal correction and preferred societal correction
By Pervez Bari,
Hyderabad : The 26th general session of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, (AIMPLB), concluded here at Salar-e-Millat Auditorium, Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre, Kanchanbagh, in Hyderabad on Sunday reiterating its firm stand on Babri Masjid issue of no outside court settlement but judiciary pronouncement in the case.
Addressing a joint Press conference after the conclusion of the AIMPLB general session the office-bearers and members of the Board said that they will no stone unturned to prevent the Muslim Women (Protection on Marriage) Bill, which envisages to criminalise instant Talaq-e-Biddat (instant Triple Talaq), from being passed in the Rajya Sabha to become an Act. The board members said during the general session, they had resolved to carry out more such campaigns and also gather all parties opposed to government’s Bill, which they termed unconstitutional.
Members of the law board also said they had conveyed their reservations about the Bill to the government. They also said they would approach the courts if the Bill is passed.
The AIMPLB while terming the practice of Triple Talaq unacceptable, said it was opposed to its penal correction and preferred societal correction.
Explaining reservation about the Bill Dr. Asma Zehra, convenor of Women’s Wing of the AIMPLB said: “The Bill is defective. We have received representations from several women organisations who want us to point out the problems. The AIMPLB has organised awareness programmes to educate men and women about Islamic provisions on marriage and divorce”.
The board’s members also said efforts are under way to push a model Nikahnama in the States, which carry a clause signed by the groom. The clause makes it binding on the groom to refrain from issuing Triple Talaq.
Advocating societal pressure, members argued that the proposed law would harm women’s interests, as a husband may neither agree to divorce nor fulfil his responsibilities towards his wife if he were booked.
The board also informed that efforts to put together a financial assistance fund for women affected by Triple Talaq are under way.
Later in the evening, members addressed a massive public gathering at the headquarters of AIMIM, where they urged men to refrain from issuing triple talaq and recognise rights of women. The board maintained that it is open to social reform in tune with changing times.
Meanwhile, president of AIMPLB, Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi, presided over the three-day general session which was attended by around 400 members/special invitees from different spheres of life which included Ulemas, intellectuals, social and political personalities.
The general session during the three days had discussed and decided to protect the Islamic Shariah. It was decided:
1. “Babri Masjid is an essential part of faith in Islam and Muslims can never abdicate the Masjid nor could they exchange land for Masjid or gift the Masjid land. Babri Masjid is a Masjid and it shall remain a Masjid till eternity. By demolishing Babri Masjid, it never loses its identity as a Masjid. And according to Shariah, it always remains a Masjid. Without any doubt, we make it clear that the struggle for the reconstruction of Babri Masjid continues and the appeal in Supreme Court is being fought rigorously with all the resources available at the disposal of the Board. The AIMPLB fully supports and endorses the reform movement launched by the Board and it is also decided that state-wide committees and district-level committees will be formed. These will be under the aegis of the central body.
2. The Muslim Women (Protection on Marriage) Bill, moved by the Central government is anti-women. It will create more difficulties for women. It is against Shariah and it is against the Constitution. The efforts made by the Board will continue to stop this Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The Board will start a country-wide awareness campaign against this Bill and will also coordinate with the opposition parties which are opposing the Bill. Country-wide, women’s empowerment meetings will be continuously held.
3. The plenary, various committee reports were discussed and the members present expressed their satisfaction on their working of the Board.
4. On this occasion, the President of the Board, in his presidential address, said that the Islamic laws are based on the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The Muslims will not accept any amendments or any proposals for amendments in the Shariah. India is a secular, democratic country which allows the Muslims and other communities to practise their religion according to their religious laws and customs. In the present circumstances, the Board will focus its energies on Islah-e-Mashaira (Social Reform movement), for empowerment and implementation of the rights of Muslim women, to ensure that every reconciliatory step is taken to protect the sanctity of marriage, to ensure that all steps are taken so that the rights of the Muslim women divorcees are taken care by their families.
5. The Board will take up campaigns to create awareness among the masses and, in particular, among the Muslims, as how the present government, under the garb of Instant Talaq Bill (Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 wants to put restrictions on the Muslims.
6. On Babri Masjid case, the Board is taking every legal step for the reconstruction of the Masjid.
7. To create awareness and understanding of the Shariah, the Board will start a country-wide campaign for this purpose, so that the Muslims are made to understand about Nikah, Talaq, Inheritance and how everything should be done according to the Shariah laws.
Lastly, the General Secretary of the Board, Maulana Wali Rahmani, presented the general secretary’s report and gave a message that the real strength of the community lies in its unity. We have to save ourselves from disunity so that we remain as an honourable community of the country.
The present environment in the country reminds us that at all costs, we must remain united, ignore our minor differences and adopt the path of moderation and through our writings, words and deeds; we must create unity and peace in the country.
Meanwhile, a “Hyderabad Declaration” was also released at the end of the 26th general session of the AIMPLB.

Hyderabad : The AIMPLB, the apex body of the Indian Muslims, on Sunday declared that Muslims will not give up Babri Masjid and that struggle for its reconstruction will continue.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) reiterated its stand in ‘Hyderabad Declaration’ passed on the third and final day of its 26th plenary here.
“Babri Masjid is an essential part of faith in Islam and Muslims can never abdicate the Masjid nor they can exchange land for Masjid or gift the Masjid land. Babri Masjid is a Masjid and it shall remain a Masjid till eternity,” said a statement released by the board.
This assumed significance as an executive member of the board, Maulana Salman Hussaini Nadvi had mooted a formula after meeting Hindu leader Sri Sri Ravishankar on Friday that the land on which Babri Masjid stood till December 6, 1992, be given for building Ram temple. He suggested that an alternate land be allocated for construction of a mosque and an Islamic university.
Facing flak from board members for his controversial formula against the board’s stand, Nadvi did not attend the plenary on the second day Saturday and announced his “disassociation” from the board. The board on Sunday accepted his “disassociation” and announced that he is no longer a member.
“By demolishing Babri Masjid, it never loses its identity as a masjid. And according to Shariah, it always remains a Masjid,” said the statement read out by the board’s executive member Kalam Faruqui at a news conference.
“Without any doubt, we make it clear that the struggle for the reconstruction of Babri Masjid continues and the appeal in Supreme Court is being fought rigorously with all the resources available at the disposal of the Board. The country’s topmost lawyers are appearing on behalf of the Muslims and we believe that the Almighty Allah will make us successful in the Supreme Court,” it added.

By Pervez Bari,
Hyderabad : The All India Muslim Personal Board, (AIMPLB), the representative body of Indian Muslims of all schools of thought and all the organizations, has reiterated that it is firm on its stand on Babri Masjid issue and there is no change in it. Similarly, there is no change in the stand on non-interference in the divine laws of Muslims by the Government or any other quarter.
The above views were stated by Maulana Syed Mohammad Rabey Hasani Nadvi, president of All India Muslim Personal Board, (AIMPLB), in his presidential speech of the 26th general session of the Board here on Saturday.
Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi said the land dedicated for Masjid cannot be sold, gifted or in any way alienated, reiterating its earlier stand on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute.
It may be pointed out here that a day earlier in a statement AIMPLB had stated: “The All India Muslim Personal Law Board reiterates its resolution dated December, 1990 and January, 1993 and once again emphasises the basic level of Shariah that the land dedicated for Masjid cannot be sold, gifted or in any way alienated. If once dedicated, it vests in Allah. All the attempts to negotiate the settlements in past have been in fructuous and there is no proposal offering settlement without sacrificing the basic tenet has ever been put before the Board,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Maulana Rabey referring to divine laws in context to Triple Talaaq said: “No force on earth can change Muslim Personal Law as it is divine which has been formulated by the Creator of the Universe. Any attempt to impose Uniform Civil Code, (UCC), will create conflict in the society. The Almighty Allah made a law for the betterment and welfare of men and women. This law is by the creator and thus it is in tune with the human nature. It’s well balanced and has given status of respect and dignity to women. They are protected, safe, secure and satisfied. Divorce is not a problem but a solution to the problem. If a man and wife can’t adjust, they can’t be forced to live together for whole life. Talaaq (divorce) provides a way out. Allegedly in the name of showing sympathy to women, attempts are being made to snatch the right to divorce.”
Earlier, AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Wali Rahmani in his detail report covered many issues concerning the Muslim community and the rule of law in the country.
In his report Maulana Wali Rahmani expressed concern over the threat to the personal law with the instant Triple Talaq issue. The report appreciated the stand of Opposition parties in Rajya Sabha, were the Bill on instant Triple Talaq was stalled. He requested the personal law board to suggest and guide the Muslims and asked the plenary session to evolve a strategy how to stop the union government move for passing the bill. In his report Maulana Rahmani stated that the government wants to interfere in the personal law matters which are guaranteed in the Indian Constitution and it is against in the spirit of the Indian Constitution and previous court verdicts.
Regarding the contentious Babri Masjid issue he elaborated the legal battle in the apex court. He said that the court already is of the view that the case is related to the title of the land and does not relate to the matter of faith or belief. He further said that the related documents had already been submitted, there are some documents which are yet to be translated, as per the court observation. Without naming anybody he further said that misleading rumours are being circulated, stating some elements are trying to misguide the people on Babri Masjid issue. He reiterated that the personal law board stand is that one’s a Masjid is Masjid. He said that we are ready for negotiations that should be based on fair justice and equal honour.
Referring to various cases in the lower and higher courts across the country, he claimed that the board is taking note of it and pursuing the matter with the utmost judicial conscious.
Declaring the Hyderabad plenary session as historic, he said that it is very crucial juncture were the community confronting with many issues with the bias attitude of the Government of the day.
On the issue of social reforms the report says that on the call given by the Board a lot of awareness is being generated in the community with movement call “Tahaffuz-e-shariyat-wa-Islahai-e-Mashra” (Protection of Shariya Law & understanding Shariya law and social reforms).
The report pointed out that eleven main issues pertaining to the Muslim community across the nation were approved for discussion in the working committee meeting as agenda for the plenary held last night.
About 500 delegates from over the country are participating in the 26th general session of the Board.

Hyderabad : The AIMPLB, an apex body of Indian Muslims, is likely to expel its executive member, Maulana Syed Salman Hussaini Nadvi, for favouring handing over disputed land in Ayodhya, where Babri Masjid once stood, for the construction of Ram temple.
Taking strong exception to the proposal, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has formed a four-member committee to take disciplinary action against Nadvi, an eminent cleric who mooted the proposal during a meeting with spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The committee comprises AIMPLB President Rabey Hasani Nadvi, General Secretary Wali Rahmani and executive members Arshad Madani and Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and it is expected to take a decision on Sunday.
The deliberations at the three-day crucial plenary, which began here Friday, were dominated by the controversy.
Sources in AIMPLB said Salman Nadvi, who teaches at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, a leading seminary in Lucknow, may be expelled from the board for not only taking a stand in contravention of its traditional stand on Babri Masjid but also making allegations against the board’s leadership.
With the executive meeting on Friday pulling up Nadvi for his proposal, he stayed away from the plenary meeting on the second day and reportedly left Hyderabad. Earlier, talking to reporters, he alleged that two executive members Kamal Farooqi and S.Q.R. Ilyas humiliated him.
Salman Nadvi defended his formula saying this would ensure peace and communal harmony. He alleged that there is dictatorship in the board and few people are controlling it.
Talking to IANS on Saturday, Ilyas denied the allegations made by Salman Nadvi against him. “I initiated the discussion but all those who spoke opposed the proposal as it is the well-known stand of the board that the land of mosque can’t be sold, gifted or alienated. This is an attempt to malign the board,” he said.
Ilyas, who is convenor of the Babri Masjid committee of the board, said Nadvi should have raised any issue in the AIMPLB meeting before speaking publicly. He said Nadvi’s action had damaged the board’s reputation at a time when it is holding a crucial meeting here to discuss various important issues.
“If anybody has any issue, he may discuss it in the board. You can’t go and talk on behalf of the board. Mr Salman Nadvi is not an ordinary person. He is the executive member of the board. If he doesn’t agree with the board, let him resign and then do whatever he wants,” said Ilyas.
He also said that if the board failed to take action against Salman Nadvi, it would damage the image of the board.
Some members and special invitees, who did not want to be named, see a conspiracy behind Salman Nadvi’s proposal to create a divide in the board, which is a united platform of all Islamic schools of thought. They said he proposed the formula on the eve of the plenary to create confusion.
The board leaders held no media briefing of the deliberations on Saturday. However, a decision on Salman Nadvi is expected to be announced on Sunday, when the plenary will conclude with the passing of Hyderabad Declaration and a massive public meeting.
After the executive committee meeting on Friday night, the Board issued a statement to rule out compromise on the land in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, on which the Babri Masjid stood before it was demolished by a mob December 6, 1992.A
The AIMPLB said that when a mosque is constructed, it remains a mosque always and it can’t be sold, exchanged, or alienated in any manner. It also said it will abide by the Supreme Court order, which is presently hearing the case.
