Tehran : Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday warned that Iran will quit the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal if the interests of his country are not secured.
Iran and six world powers, namely China, Germany, France, Russia, the UK, and the US had struck a landmark agreement over Iran’s nuclear programme in 2015, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Xinhua news agency reported.
However, US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the deal on May 8 and reimposed sanctions, including an oil embargo, on Iran.
“If we come to the conclusion that JCPOA cannot serve the national interests, we will leave it,” Khamenei said during a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his administration.
Through his official website, the Iranian leader also expressed dismay over the EU, saying the Islamic republic “pins no hope on Europeans over JCPOA and economic issues”.
Iran has incessantly urged Europe to take “practical and tangible measures” to protect Iranian interests since the US pullout.

Tehran : The US is exerting “in vain” economic pressure on the Iranian nation to divide and turn them against the establishment, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday.
“The enemy’s plan is to create division between the establishment and the people,” Xinhua quoted Khamenei as saying.
“Washington’s plan reflects their stupidity because they do not know that the Islamic republic is nothing but the Iranian nation and these two cannot be separated,” he made the remarks at a ceremony at Imam Hussein University in the capital Tehran.
The US is not able to press Iran alone, so it has made coalitions with “disgraceful and reactionary states” in the region, he said.
“We will increase our bond with the people day by day,” he said, stressing that “the hatred of the Iranian nation for the United States has been increasing day by day.”
Following US President Donald Trump’s decision to quit the historic Iran nuclear pact on May 8, Washington vowed to re-impose sanctions against Iran and inflict punishments including secondary sanctions on countries that have business links with the Islamic republic.
Firms doing business in Iran were given up to 180 days to terminate investments, before they risk huge fines.

Tehran : Iran will overcome the new wave of sanction pressures by the US, a senior Iranian official said on Friday.
“The American officials believe that Iran would surrender under the pressure of sanctions, but it will become obvious soon that the Iranian nation will successfully overcome the challenge of new sanctions,” Xinhua quoted Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as saying.
“Today, the region’s top power is undoubtedly Iran, which has been able to cut off the hands of the US and its regional allies from the set (of pro-resistance countries) around us,” the Iranian former foreign minister said.
Velayati described the US anti-Iran sanctions as “a kind of revenge”, stressing that the Iranian government and nation will stand together in confronting the sanctions.
The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last month that Iran will suffer the toughest sanctions in history from the United States if it does not change the current course.
Pompeo urged Tehran to report to the International Atomic Energy Agency about its nuclear program, end proliferation of its missiles, and stop supporting “terrorist groups” in the Middle East.

Tehran : Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) to prepare for the enrichment of uranium up to a level of 190,000 SWU (separative work units).
Khamenei issued the order on Monday in a televised speech at the ceremony held at the Imam Khomeini Mausoleum in southern Tehran to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the passing away of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic republic, Xinhua reported.
“It seems… that some European governments expect the Iranian nation to both put up with sanctions and give up its nuclear activities,” said Khamenei.
He was referring to the negotiations Iran is holding with European countries on preserving the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), after the US pullout in May.
“I tell those (European) governments that this bad dream will never come true,” Khamenei said.
The Iranian leader said Iran would not tolerate sanctions on one hand and undergo “nuclear austerity” on the other.
He ordered the AEOI to immediately prepare the ground for the uranium enrichment “up to a level of 190,000 SWU for the time being within the framework of the nuclear deal.”
Based on the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran can enrich uranium up to the level of 3.5 per cent, which represents low-enriched uranium.
“Enemies’ measures against Iran show how desperate they are rather than a sign of their power,” Khamenei said.
These measures may slow down “the forward march of Iran, but cannot stop its progress,” he added.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Tehran : Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said here on Tuesday that Jerusalem is “definitely” the capital of Palestine.
The US move to call Al-Quds (Jerusalem) the capital of Israel will fail eventually and “they won’t be able to implement this (decision)”, Khamenei said at the 13th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Iran’s capital Tehran.
He said the governments who help the US and Israel are “traitors to Islam and Muslims”, Xinhua news reported.
He added that the cause of Palestine is the foremost issue of the Muslims.
The cause of “Palestine is an important issue of Islamic world and should not be forgotten”, he was quoted as saying by semi-official ISNA news agency.
The resistance against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories has achieved advancements so far and “I believe that it will bear fruit”, he said.
Khamenei also urged unity and solidarity among Islamic countries.
Last December, US President Donald Trump announced his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and instructed the State Department to begin the process of moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the decision, saying Washington’s recognition was a “blatant violation of international resolutions”.
