US inquiry shows no conclusive proof of Saudi govt link to 9/11

USATTACKWASHINGTON: US intelligence officials have finished reviewing 28 classified pages of the official report on the Sept. 11 attacks and they show no evidence of Saudi complicity, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Friday.

“It will confirm what we have been saying for quite some time,” Earnest told reporters during a daily White House briefing.

The 28 pages to US Congress contain no new evidence that Saudi Arabia played a role in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Earnest said.

Saudi Ambassador to the US Abdullah Al-Saud welcomed the release of the report.

He said it had “confirmed that neither the Saudi government, nor senior Saudi officials, nor any person acting on behalf of the Saudi government provided any support or encouragement for these attacks.”

Al-Saud explained in a statememnt:  “Since 2002, the 9/11 Commission and several government agencies, including the CIA and the FBI, have investigated the contents of the ‘28 Pages’ and have confirmed that neither the Saudi government, nor senior Saudi officials, nor any person acting on behalf of the Saudi government provided any support or encouragement for these attacks.”

He said: “We hope the release of these pages will clear up, once and for all, any lingering questions or suspicions about Saudi Arabia’s actions, intentions, or long-term friendship with the US.”

He pointed out that “Saudi Arabia is working closely with the US and other allies to eradicate terrorism and destroy terrorist organizations.”
