Addressing a huge gathering of political leaders, social activists, former high court judges and celebrities Mamata underscored the need of unity and sought advice and guidance for the battle ahead.

MUMBAI – The West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo cited the “victimisation” of megastar Shah Rukh Khan in Mumbai on Wednesday calling BJP a “cruel and undemocratic party.”

According to a NDTV report, Mamata Banerjee, addressing a huge audience that included political leaders, social activists, former high court judges and celebrities, underscored the need of unity and sought advice and guidance for the battle ahead.

“India loves manpower not muscle power. We are facing a cruel undemocratic party the BJP. If we are together, we will win,” said the Trinamool chief, according to the report.

“Mahesh ji (film director Mahesh Bhatt), you have been victimised, Shah Rukh Khan has also been victimised. If we have to win, we have to fight and speak out wherever you can. You guide us and give us advice as a political party,” NDTV quoted Mamata Banerjee as saying.

Invoking Bengal’s iconic poet Rabindranath Tagore and his poem on Maratha king Shivaji, she added that there is already a “bridge” between Bengal and Maharashtra.

Her meet on Wednesday was attended by former High Court judges Shafi Parkar and Abhay Thipse, Tushar Gandhi, activists Teesta Setalvad and Medha Patkar, former Congress leader Sanjay Jha, Sudheendra Kulkarni, Shatrughan Sinha, author Shobha De and a fair sized contingent from Bollywood including Swara Bhaskar, Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen Sharma, according to the report.

After the spectacular victory in West Bengal elections defeating mighty Hindu nationalist party BJP, Mamata Banerjee has emerged as a powerful leader capable of taking on BJP on national level in the next general elections.

Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister also visited New Delhi and met prominent political leaders of various parties seemingly to forge a strong Opposition to fight out ruling BJP in the state elections and the next parliamentary elections.
