Relief goods reach 32,000 people in Syria’s hard-to-reach town in Hama: UN

by | May 25, 2021

United Nations, UNUnited Nations, (NNN-SANA) : The United Nations announced on Friday that, basic relief items, including food, education materials, water and sanitation, have been delivered to 32,000 people, in the hard-to-reach town of Qalaat al-Madiq, in Syria’s Hama Governorate.

UN Deputy Spokesperson, Farhan Haq, told a daily briefing that an inter-agency convoy delivered the assistance, but some surgical and medical items had been removed during the loading process.

“The United Nations continues to call on all parties, in particular the Syrian authorities, to allow for all necessary humanitarian aid, including medical supplies and surgical items, to be allowed onto the convoys,” said Haq.

Amid a stalled political peace process, compounded by protracted fighting, hundreds of thousands of Syrian people are living in besieged areas and are in need of aid.

Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly called for unhindered access of humanitarian aid to all besieged Syrian cities.

Earlier this month, the UN has said, more than 978,000 Syrians, in hard-to-reach areas, have received UN assistance since the beginning of 2016. However, humanitarian access to many of these areas continues to be constrained, by increased fighting and insecurity.
