Abidjan (IINA) : Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) discussed on Tuesday the situation of young people in Islamic countries and their position on development plans in these countries, on the sidelines of the 44th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in the Ivorian capital city of Abidjan.
The ministers held a brainstorming session under the theme of “Youth, Peace, and Development in a World of Solidarity” to discuss the main problems that prevent the complete integration of young people into the development processes of Islamic countries. They also discussed solutions to prevent the diversion of youth in member states toward extremism, and protect them from falling into the grip of extremist and terrorist groups.
Further, the ministers stressed the importance of elaborating socio-economic strategies to contain young people and to deal more seriously with the crises facing them, especially the triad of poverty, extremism and illegal immigration.
The topic of youth is included as the main focus of the current session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers with the view to issuing recommendations and initiatives to address the situation of young people in member states.
