Kuwaiti women protest against humiliation of hijab-wearing students in India

by | Feb 17, 2022

Scores of Muslim women on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Indian embassy in Kuwait City in connection with harassment of female students for wearing hijab in some Indian states especially Karnataka.

Four days ago, a similar protest was also held by women at Irada Square in Kuwait City.

Muslim students have been facing humiliation for wearing hijab at schools and colleges in India. Many of them have been forced to take off their hijab before entering educational institutions.

The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order disallowing hijab or any form of religious dress in schools and colleges that have prescribed uniforms for their students. The order has been denounced by legal experts on the ground that it has further enabled the humiliation of Muslim students instead of providing a solution to the issue.
