New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has signed an MoU with the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) to promote academic collaboration with the institutions in the region.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI and Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM in the presence of distinguished guests and senior academic officials of JMI.
Jamia, which has a Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (NESPR) that functions as leading research and documentation centre for the region, will have an opportunity to work closely with the institution for the academic development of the region. The MoU opens opportunities for collaborative research projects, seminars, workshops and faculty support. The USTM students would have opportunities to attend special classes to receive greater exposure in the respective subjects.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Talat Ahmad said ‘when I visited USTM I offered to collaborate with USTM. as I was surprised to see the way Mr Haque is developing the university, it has very dedicated staff, finest scientific labs, and wonderful greenery.’
‘We are going to help eachother , it will be mutually beneficial. We also want to develop a corridor for disaster management making a base at USTM’.Any collaboration with academic institutions from North East Region will go a long way in strengthening their educational base besides leading to the development of the region’ he added.
‘USTM was orphan, but now we have got a guardian in form of Jamia Millia Islamia. Jamia will provide us guidance. Most of our teachers are young who need guidance. Primarily our focus will be getting expertise from the departments like media. social science etc’ said Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM.

The USTM has already entered into academic collaborations with several other universities like JNU and Tezpur University.
